Amazing how this scouting staff really turns over rocks to find talent, they just never stop. They are like machines.

We are so lucky to have Will McClay and especially Judd Garrett.

They are tireless workers. They grind that film, they go the extra mile to ensure they have exhausted every avenue when we sign a street free agent. Rest assured they have done their homework.

Wait, what? He was here before and we felt he wasn't good enough, yet now he is?

Okay then.
I figure that based on their scouting, they bring various players in that have potential to fill an immanent or potential need. Work them out, give a physical......an interview and keep a flyer on those who could meet a need. An immanent need apparently arose......

And they filled it with the warm body they remember.

Yeah, back then the Cowboys did not need to add a OLinemen for depth. Now, because of injuries, they do. Am I missing something?

Yes, because the same coaching staff who put together what is considered to be the best offensive line in the NFL should really have had a superstar at the ready to back up every one of the five positions. Keeping Leary on the team was also a really stupid decision. These guys really suck at assessing and maintaining talent on the line. You're right. They shouldn't have signed Cleary as an insurance policy. They should have just ignored the situation or signed a much more effective tackle since the talent pool is so deep at this time of year.

Cleary's draft profile makes him sound like a poor man's Marc Colombo needing to increase his anchor strength. But he's been nothing but a journeyman practice squadder. (multiple teams)

thats good, first of all, nothing wrong with journeymen. second of all, this was the best oline eva, so we wont see a drop in production ... right? nothing to worry about.

we should have made better use of that 4th waiver claim and started turning bodies. But we sat on it thinking we can use it next year too.

With Tyron Smith suffering back spasms and Doug Free working through a quadriceps strain, the Dallas Cowboys will sign offensive tackle Emmett Cleary, who was cut earlier this month by the New York Giants. Before the signing is official, the Cowboys have to clear a roster spot. Cleary was among a number of players the Cowboys worked out after the season opener. The Cowboys don't believe Smith's injury is severe, but Cleary offers some insurance.

You must be ignoring our last draft right?

I'd be upset if he couldn't even make a team with a weak Oline PS, but I think the Giants is who cut him.

Teams often bring in players for tryouts at positions they don't think are covered with the active roster/PS in the event they have a need later in the year. This is SOP in all 32 NFL cities.

What's more interesting is that Bernadeau is on the street and they liked the Cleary option at OT better than sliding an existing player out and backing Collins' roster spot up with Berny.

Don't know if Bernadeau is healthy, still wants to play, or how much money he wants to get off the couch.
