Someone ratchet up the Commanders gold pants alert level from "gold" to "really really gold." A Cowboys official has confirmed to me that Dallas will be wearing white tops in FedEx Field on Sept. 12. That means the Commanders will be wearing burgundy tops. Throw in some gold pants, and the above magic could be recreated.
"Usually, Washington wears its white jerseys at home but new coach Mike Shanahan is changing that," DallasCowboys.com's Nick Eatman wrote on the True Blue blog, via Extreme Skins. "So the Sept. 12 opener will see the Commanders wear their reds."
Reds? Anyhow, the Cowboys official I spoke with confirmed that the Cowboys will be in white for the opener, and said that uniform choices were due to the league on June 1.
If you recall, back in May, GM Bruce Allen started the gold alert when he talked about staring at a pair of gold pants in his office. Soon, Commanders fans were making mock-ups of what that might look like in the modern age.
Earlier this month, Allen declined to provide any more details and suggested the final decision had not yet been made. By then, the Commanders store at FedEx Field was already selling t-shirts featuring the gold pants.
