Opening the season with a winning streak is such a good feeling. It's also rather rare. Consider this.

The Cowboys have 4 seasons opening with 3 wins.

1973
1979
1992 *
1999

They have 5 seasons opening with 4 wins.

1966
1975
1981
1995 *
2007

The Cowboys have 1 season with a 5 game streak.

1976

They have 2 seasons with a 6 game streak.

1968
1969

One season with a 7 game streak.

1983

One with an 8 game streak.

The * indicates Super Bowl seasons.

Tom Landry's longest regular season win streak was 11 games. The final 5 games of 1968 and the first 6 of 1969.

Jimmy Johnson's longest was 8 games. The final 5 of 1991, and the first 3 of 1992.

Barry Switzer's longest was 6 games in the middle of the 1994 season.

Chan Gailey's longest was 5 games. The final 2 of 1998 and the first 3 of 1999.

Dave Campo's longest was 2 games. He did it 3 times. Twice in 2001, once in 2002.

Bill Parcells' longest was 5 games in the middle of 2003.

Not really if you consider it only took Wade Phillips 3 games to beat it.

I have no idea why I got so upset back then. We were just a bad bad bad team with a bad coaching staff. I wish I could have seen that back then and just sat back amused at our ineptitude instead of having my guts ripped out every Sunday.

Oh well. Live and learn.

I don't think Campo was so bad as it was a a depleted roster and salary cap strapped franchise that traded away draft picks for quick fixes that never paid off while trying out the terrible idea to let Bruce Coslet install the West Coast offense.

Zimmer still managed some top ranked units and I think Campo had some similar player appeal as Coach Phillips, difference being his teams were just bad and he and Coach Joe Avezanno were shorthanded for talented and good assistants.

We're 5 years past the Campo years. I choose not to dwell on those dark days. I've moved on.

He's talking about how long they went undefeated by season.
ok..... but if they opened a season twice going 6-0. how can they have only opened a season once going 5-0?

how do they have a 5 game streak once and a 6 game streak twice?

He only counted each year for how long the opening streak lasted.

In 68' and 69' we started off 6-0 so it went under the 6 game streak category.

Since 1976 was the only year where we only won the first 5 games, it went under the 5-0 category, not 4-0 or less.

Because in that season, they only won the first 5, then they lost.

They other two they went to 6 straight wins before losing game seven to go 6-1.

It was obvious to me. Which means it was probably confusing. :p:

You know what I notice Hos is that in every instance Dallas starts 4-0 the team advances to the NFC Championship game if not further.

Here's hoping to continue the trend of 1995 and 1975 but not losing the Super Bowl as in 1975.
