University of Maryland junior outside linebacker Yannick Ngakoue has piqued the Texans' interest and did a private workout for linebackers coach Mike Vrabel, according to a source not authorized to speak publicly.

Ngakoue is a classic tweener pass rusher who's had private workouts for the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys. The All-Big Ten Conference selection also has drawn heavy interest from the Tennessee Titans and several other NFL teams.

Ngakoue is now positioned to take several top 30 visits and is regarded as a rising draft prospect after declaring early for the draft following his junior year for the Terrapins. Ngakoue projects as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

Ngakoue set a Maryland record and finished second in the country with 13 1/2 sacks and had 15 tackles for losses.

Ngakoue had 45 quarterback pressures for his career, relentlessly pressuring the pocket and escaping blocks.

He had at least one sack in 10 consecutive games as a junior.

Ngakoue played well in games against Iowa offensive tackle Brandon Scherff, Michigan State left tackle Jack Conklin and Ohio State left tackle Taylor Decker.

No he is a sleeper, he's relentless as hell, he owned the Commanders guard Brandon scherff in 2014.. Don't be surprised if someone drafts him in the 2nd round

as a 3-4 guy. With us hed fit as a replacement for Wilber.

He's been a real wildcard in all my mocks....Don't know what to do w/ him. But after reading that article....I can see Tennessee top of round 3...Round 2 is just a little too rich for me.

Wow...nailed it. I watched every game Jack Conklin played the last 3 years. He dominated EVERY Dend he played against including Joey Bosa. He was virtually flawless in pass pro for 3 whole seasons. Including a Rose Bowl win over Stanford and Cotton Bowl win over Baylor and Oakman.

BUT....this kid from Maryland got him twice in one game. As a result he hurt Connor Cook's right shoulder and it wasn't right the rest of the season. Conklin is a mid first rounder and deservedly so, but listen to Daillest88 guys: this Terp can really get after the QB.

From what I saw he's a less explosive Gregory. I dont like him, but if you do, by all means support us drafting him.

Gregorys forte is his explosiveness..that's it.., Yannick does everything well....smart player.. He has had great games against current NFL players. like Scherff.. I agree 2nd would be to early for us.. But in the 3rd id be happy with him

Agree...said he can really play. Not that I like him that high in the 2nd. Perfect early 3rd though.

Interesting...Gonna have to watch more tape. Question is where do you play him? Is he a Right DE? 6'2 245...seems kind of small to be a 3 down DE...and we already have Lawrence on the left side. I just don't see how he's a fit for us.

Yeah, he would be too small to be a 3 down DE. To me, he's a pass rushing specialist strictly. If Gregory wasn't having his issues, I doubt they'd be considering him but... he is so they are. I guess some of it depends on whether the Raiders match the offer sheet we signed Mayowa to.

ON second thought, even if we get Mayowa, we still need to draft another DE. Woefully thin with Hardy gone. (FTR. I never wanted to sign him and sure as heck don't want him back)
