Drew Boylhart (The Huddle Report) PARAPHRASED...
Tyler Boyd WR Pittsburgh
STRENGTHS
Tyler has Larry Fitzgerald-type hands. Smooth, smart, receiver. He has the ability to adjust to the ball in the air. Team's main weapon, and can play any WR position. Gives good effort blocking opposing DBs. Dependable WR that can make the catch even when he's covered. Large catch radius with big soft hands. He could become a core receiver for the team that selects him.
CONCERNS
Slow off the snap. Runs poor routes. He needs to learn to get separation from DBs, or he's going to have to become a possession WR. If so, he'll need to bulk up to take the pounding that a possession WR takes.
TALENT BOARD ROUND: 4
Tyler has potential because of his ability to catch the ball with strong hands, but he has to run better routes. He needs to learn to change speeds to set up DBs. He runs all his routes at the same speed... SLOW. In the NFL, he doesn't have the speed, agility, or size to play the way he plays at the college level. He's going to need to add bulk to adjust to the NFL or he's going to struggle. Even so, he doesn't have the speed or lateral agility to impact a team at the NFL level. But, he does have great hands. So, if he has a strong work ethic, he could become a productive player. I really like this kid’s ability to catch the ball in any situation. Whether he's covered, or not, he'll come down with the ball. Tyler has more negatives than positives to overcome, but there is no reason why he can’t overcome those negatives given the time.
