to sum up the article,
tier 1 needs are CB and S
tier 2 needs are NT, LB, DE
tier 3 needs are WR, 3T, IOL
tier 4 needs are OT, TE, QB
tier 5 needs are RB and Specialist

I tend to think it's close but would tweak it a little.
For me the needs in order goes: CB, S, NT, DE, LB, OT, DT, WR, IOL, QB, RB, TE, SP

What do ya'll say about this list?

TE second to last but could be the pick. Joy.
Not that I think TE is a massive need, but their list has some flaws...imo

They have OT way too low, for example

As for Pitts, you can add together WR and TE...plus and more importantly, rare talent kind of does not apply to these lists.
Maybe we can argue there is a rare talent at QB....maybe.
But I don't see a rare talent at any other position this year in the draft.
Really good, but not rare.

I think they are basing it simply off of health.

Smith and Collins are top tier starters. Nsekhe, Steele and Knight are experienced depth.

Would love a Hudson or Jaimes. But won’t be mad not to reach for a pick before day 3.

OT would be Tier 3, maybe even Tier 2 for me.

And DT would absolutely be Tier 1 for me. Thinking we don't have as big a need at DT because we signed a couple of JAG DTs in free agency is just idiotic to me.

How is wide receiver a tier 3 need? We have one of best receiving cores in the league.

My guess is Gallup is likely gone next season. I agree with you though.

Lamb and Coop are legit 1s. Wilson, Brown are more special teams guys.

My own ranking would be:
  1. Cornerback
  2. Safety
  3. Defensive tackle
  4. Linebacker
  5. Offensive tackle
  6. Defensive end
  7. Speed receiver (only)
  8. Interior offensive lineman
  9. Tight end
  10. Running back
  11. Quarterback

You can have Lamb/Cooper and a bunches of bums off of the street and the Cowboys still we have a top flight receiving core.

My own ranking would be:
  1. Defensive tackle specifically 1T
  2. Safety specifically FS
  3. Linebacker specifically MLB
  4. Cornerback (but talent says this should be their pick at 10 - even if not top need)
  5. Punt and Kickoff Returner
  6. Quarterback - specifically backup QB
  7. Offensive tackle - Smith, Collins start -- you have an older swing and 3 or 4 other capable T
  8. Defensive end - Tank (one of the top paid DE) and Gregory, plus others........
  9. Speed receiver and specific Red Zone threat
  10. Interior offensive lineman
  11. Tight end
  12. Running back

This ranking is for "need", and not for how they should draft based upon talent.

The only exception I would make would be for a speed receiver. We have a bunch of receivers with similar attributes but not a true burner.
Oh no doubt. That’s why I said they are both legit 1s.

Was just trying to understand their thinking

I would say

1- DT is number one need. you can't stop the run with your CBs and safties. it starts up front. we were one of the all time worst rush defenses in history of NFL last year.
2- LB - Similarly, they are key to stopping the run and those short and intermediate routes that killed us last year.
3- Saftey has been our achilles heel for past 10+ years. the middle of the pass defense has been weak and we give up way too much in the middle. and they are also helpful in run stopping.
4- CB - as unpopular as this maybe..fix the DL, fix the pass pressure. fix the run defense and put the opposing team in predictable play calling position and your pass defense automtically improves.
5- DE - there is starter talent, but no depth. that's scary. its key to pressuring the QB and getting sacks, pressures and turnovers
6- OT - I didn't want to specify which side, because Collins is coming off hip surgery and Smith has been injured every year the past 3 years. we do need a replacement soon
7- TE - schultz did ok. jarwin may bounce back. we are OK at TE, not great. neither is a difference maker that will require defensive focus, they just take advantage of the WRs taking the defensive focus
8- QB - a developmental QB to have opportunity to become a good back up.
9- RB, IOL, WR

unfortunatley the draft talent doesn't follow suit so we may take a CB, then LB, then DT, depending on how it unfolds.

WR over OT and TE?

3T on tier 3? The 2nd 3T plays as much or more than the 1tech (4-3 NT) in the modern NFL.

That Tier 4 is wrong. I heard on here that we need a qb from many posters, lol.

What do ya'll say about this list?

Needs:

1: Impact Players (Add a super star anywhere and the team is better).
2: Defense
3: OT. Yes Tyron might be healthier than he has been in a few years due to having needed that surgery for several years and due to a year off. Similar with La'el. HOWEVER, it could easily be that injury issues impact both again and Steele, etc are starting again.

CB
LB de need to stop the run and we need to stop the RPO or read zone
DT
S
OG if we want to upgrade the OL we need a LOG
OT

I don't necessarily agree.

Tier 1 is CB because we did not sign a starter, which means either Lewis or Brown would have to start

Tier 2 is 3-tech and FS because both of these positions are key in this defensive system and you need to have a stud at them.

Tier 3 is NT and LB because we possibly need to upgrade both spots, even with adding Neal, who's only on a one-year deal.

The rest is just personal preference, although I'd probably say OT simply because of Smith's health. I think we're protected fairly well this year by signing Nsekhe. The probability of our top four tackles all getting hurt again like last year is not that high. It would be good to have a left tackle to groom, though.
