Will Dallas need multiple high O-line picks this draft? Nobody knows more than the head coach.
When the Cowboys finished their Super Bowl runs in the mid-'90s, current head coach Jason Garrett got to ride shotgun on OC Ernie Zampese's play calls. The then backup quarterback handled a headset connected to Zampese and Garrett relayed Zampese's calls to Troy Aikman. Garrett knew the tendencies and he saw which calls finished drives.
In recent years, Garrett has handled the play calling, and has perhaps the best understanding of his offense's strengths and weaknesses this side of Tony Romo. (I put number 9 at the top of the list because his body feels every shortcoming his line, tight ends and backs have.)
Garrett knows which runs worked, and didn't work, in that 1st-and-goal-line failure against San Diego in '09. He knows every run call that failed against Washington the following week. He knows how much work goes into designing clever play action throws to get the ball into the end zone when his guys are inside the opposition's ten....
