Doesn't this analogy make a better case for why Gronk IS responsible.

The fat lady is fat because she eats. She's eating because she's fat. All her fault.

If you're trying to remove blame from Gronk you should have said that blaming him is like blaming an overly force-fed quadriplegic for being fat.

No, actually the fat lady is "already" fat, and yes it was her fault for getting where she is today.... dont blame a rook for an entire under performing units inability to perform its primary responsibility.

Good thing most people aren't doing that.

In fact, I've yet to see anyone say that Gronk is responsible for an entire failure of an OL.

Most just acknowledge that he completely failed on a blitz pickup and it ended up costing the team a starting QB.

Gronkowski was on the field for more than 30% of the offensive snaps (337 plays), and touched the ball or was targeted with a pass 19 times for a total of 52 yards. The other 318 plays, his role was almost exclusively as a blocker. For those 318 plays, he rates an F. Goal line and second-level blocking were the main problems with our running game, and Gronkowski figured prominently in both.

In 2009, Dallas scored a touchdown on 36% of its runs from the 2-yard line or closer. Not great, and then it got worse. In 2010, that went down to 22%, mostly due to going 3-for-14 on runs with a fullback in the game. Gronkowski was not the FB for all 14 of those plays; we stopped using him in goal line after the disaster at Indy.

In 2009, with Anderson taking on the linebackers, Dallas ranked 3rd in the league in second-level yards. In 2010, with Gronkowski, we fell to 20th. For all the (well-deserved) criticism heaped on the OL, if you're looking for the single biggest factor in the decline of our running game as measured in yards per carry, it was those second-level yards.

Too late for my grade to be factored into the average, but it's an F. He's not a fit for this team. I think he would be effective on a team that allowed him to handle the ball more, but we needed a versatile blocker and he's not that at this point. If John Phillips makes it back okay, I don't want to see Gronkowski on this roster.

Yeah, when you see it laid out like that it kind of takes the wind out of your sails.

I gave him a "C-" . I didn't really see him do much of anything good or bad, so there you go.

I'll give him the same grade, but for an opposite reason. I saw him do things both good and bad. He did enough good that I think he is worth giving a look to see if he can develop from what he did as a rookie, but he did enough bad that he cannot get a high grade.
