I don't get this obsession with launching the ball down the field. Dak did it in preseason. This is real season now, and if Dak has shown one thing, it is that he knows how to make intelligent plays and he plays to win the game. So would Dak be the real deal if he connected on a few 40 yard bombs to Terrance Williams but we lost the game? Dak doesn't launch the ball down the field because there is no need to and it opens things up for turning the ball over. With long range passes, unless a guy is just completely open, you're taking a higher risk than a shorter range pass, which opens you up to an interception, and secondly, you're opening yourself up to a risk of a fumble or sack by holding on for the ball too long waiting on your receiver. Third, if you're taking all of these bombs down the field, you're going to keep putting an undermanned defense on the field because you're going to either increase your rates of 3 and outs or you're going to score a lot more quickly and they're going to get scored on. One of the reasons I believe our defense is playing so well is that they have a ton of energy because they don't have to be on the field all game. They are playing refreshed. Slowly and methodically marching down the field keeps our defense fresh.
It's like the obsession with a homerun hitting back. Give me the guy that constantly marches forward and almost always converts on 3rd down compared to the guy who may give you a touchdown every other game on a 80 yard run, but is constantly losing yards dancing around in the backfield. Consistency is not nearly as entertaining, but it's more conducive to winning.
