It was just reported on ESPN by Chris Broussard that the Lakers are in serious discussions to not only acquire Dwight Howard, but also acquire CP3. Broussard said the Lakers are willing to trade anybody on the roster not named Kobe Bryant.

Sources say Lakers have plans to go after Dwight Howard AND CP3. Everyone not named Kobe is available.

They'll HAVE to trade everyone on the roster but Kobe to be able to afford it essentially. With those three guys (Kobe, Howard and Paul), any ONE of Odom, Bynum, Gasol, Artest or Fisher puts them way over the cap. They won't be able to resign Barnes or Brown either.

They'll have to sign a bunch of players to vet minimums like Miami did.

Interesting. Blow up a team with a solid core of players in order to have a team with 3 players.

I guess it worked great for Miami.

I don't think that the Lakers intend to trade or cut all of their players. If this happens, it probably means that the Lakers are over the cap and have to pay for Luxury Tax penalties. I suspect that the Lakers may be planning on using the new Time Warner Cable deal to offset these expenses. You figure that the penalty would be short lived. The cap will continue to rise so the Lakers will receive relief on a deal such as this with each passing year.

Yes but ESPN said they likely would not be able to get both players because they just don't have the trade bait to get both of them.

No way in hell they can do that with the garbage on their roster after Kobe.

They would have to trade all of them plus the next 20 1st round draft picks.

ESPN is a bunch of page-view ******.

Bynum, Gasol, and Odom are garbage? :laugh2:

Bynum is one of the best centers in the NBA, Gasol is one of the best power forwards in the NBA, and Odom is the best 6th man in the NBA.

Keep in mind Chris Broussard is a legit source. As legit of a source as there is. He was the first to report LeBron James would sign with the Miami Heat and obviously that's what happened. Not saying it's gonna happen, but for those of you who act like it's impossible just take a look at the history of the Los Angeles Lakers. They have a notorious history of going after and acquiring big name stars. Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and most recently in 2008 Pau Gasol.

If I were the Magic I'd trade Howard for Bynum straight up.

You're going to lose Dwight and end up with nothing. Trade him for a top 3 center who is young.

As much as it's being bandied about, there's no way.

Los Angeles will get Dwight. They won't get CP3. It's down to the Knicks or the Clippers for Chris Paul.

Broussard is what sports journalism should be. Dude was saying Miami looong before anyone else.

My guess is they deal Bynum to Orlando for Dwight and Hedo, to absorb Hedo's contract for a year. They still need a PG.

this seems to be the only board on the internet that thinks Broussard knows anything.

If we don't get CP3 we could sign Barea.

Barea/Blake
Kobe/Barnes
Artest/Turkoglu
Gasol/Caracter
Dwight/Filler

Not too shabby at all. Not a great bench, but you don't need one when you have 3 all stars in your lineup.

Did you not read the OP correctly? Chris is the same guy who reported LeBron would sign with Miami and he did. I'm not gonna lie he can annoy the hell out of me when is making lame excuses for LeBron, however there's no question Broussard is a very credible source.
