Jerry Jones: Tyrone Crawford Is "Ready" To Play Sunday Against New York

(Sept. 5, 9:12 a.m.) -- The Cowboys will have their starting left end back in the lineup on Sunday night, to hear it from owner/general manager Jerry Jones.
Jones held his weekly interview on 105.3 FM The Fan on Tuesday morning, and one of the numerous topics he covered was the health of Tyrone Crawford. The veteran pass rusher has been sidelined since Aug. 8, when he suffered a lateral ankle sprain during a training camp practice.

The injury looked grisly at the time, but the Cowboys were optimistic he’d be able to return for the season opener – and that does in fact look to be the case.

“He's ready. He'll play Sunday night," Jones said.

That could be a big boost for a defensive line that is without two contributors in David Irving and Damontre’ Moore, both of whom are suspended to start the year. Crawford appeared in 14 games last season and finished third on the team with 4.5 sacks.

This should allow us to rotate Lawrence, Crawford, Mayowa and Charlton at end, with Crawford also providing some relief for Collins at 3-tech.

Is Tapper healthy? They normally have 8 DL active.

The guy Elliott from the Packers seems to be a DE also but Broaddus claims he'll be a LB.

Will he be close to 100% or more like 70%? I know he has a high pain tolerance which is good, but he's always playing with some sort of injury which limits him bigtime

I don't have much faith in that being that he's been around many positions on the line and can't seem to make a difference. Gets bulled over inside and has no finesse outside. I hope I'm wrong, though.

I know they say otherwise as they claim he's a DE, but Crawford also provides some insurance at the 3 tech and can possibly play alongside Collins inside on passing downs.

He's not really earned the money he was given but he's an important player for us.

With the state of our DL, this could be more important than Elliot playing, though it's looks like we'll have both.

It's a lower foot sprain.

I've had several in my life... It's been a month.

He's close to 100%.

And it's something they can tape up to make it even more secure.

That's a load off my mind.

Special player. Avoided a bidding war re-signing him early.

He could be active, but I don't see Dallas counting on him to contribute at this point. I think it would be more likely that Elliott would step in at end if needed or even in the rotation because of his special teams play.

Yes, I hate that he's starting the season coming off another injury. A lot of fans think less of him than they should because he's played through some fairly significant injuries.

He'd be a fan favourite if it wasn't for his contract. Just bad luck for him, first the achiles, then two seasons with shoulder injuries, now this. Hopefully he can put it behind him. He's better than he's shown, not much you can do one armed in this league though (2015-2016)
