Crayton really stepped up

I think too many get caught up in the 1, 2 and 3 non sense. Guys are lined up in X, Y, Z with certain routs they need to run. Besides the 80 yarder Crayton also caught a big time crossing rout for 44 yards helping Dallas seal the game as Barber went on to run it in for a TD. Crayton runs good routs and and normally has a good set of hands as for speed that is not what makes a WR good, if it did guys like Jerry Rice would not be holding most of the WR records.

:hammer:

He had a seriously monster game and I was really surprised when he didn't get caught from behind on the 80 yarder. That speed camp obviously worked for him because there is no way in hell he outruns the secondary last year.

If he can have an occasional game like this throughout the year, we really will have one of the better number 2 wideouts out there after an offseason of people wanting him to be replaced (me included).

Remember Alvin Harper (1991). He was a great #2 compliment to Irvin.

I don't care if he's #1, #2, #3, or the #1 #2 in the league. As long as he's making plays and helping us win is all that matters.

Blown coverage is most often the result of good offensive scheming. They don't know who we're going to throw it to, so it causes problems for the defense.

I don't think our team really views us as having a #2, #3 or #4 receiver. I think Crayton, Hurd, Ogletree and Austin are all capable of filling that role. Crayton has the upper hand because he has been here for a while and has had success with Romo. But I'm of the opinion that we have a crop of guys who can all step in if needed.

One thing I've always said about Romo is he is one of the best at spreading the ball around and reading the field. Blown coverage is what a QB is supposed to look for. If everyone is covered, then there would be no play on offense... just food for thought.

You guys all had pretty similar responses so I figured I'd just quote you all together.

I pretty much agree with you guys. I didn't make it clear in my post, but I'm not one of the people screaming to sign/draft a better "#2" WR. I think we can get by with guys like Crayton, Austin, Hurd, etc. filling that role week to week.

I was just responding to the assertion that Crayton could ever get to that high of a level where he was considered one of the best 2nd WR options in the league.

I see your point, but I really think it is a moot one for us to be discussing given the personnel and offense we currently run. I'm, or we're, not attacking your view and I think you see where we're coming from, I think [we're] rather saying we don't have the same pecking order as some teams do.

I wasn't jumping on you or anything...I was just making a point that it shouldn't matter what #WR the guy is labeled. As long as the chains are moving and points are going up on the scoreboard, everyone is doing their job.

But in response of your assertion, I might be jumping the gun a bit here, but I think he will be at the top of the league statistically for receivers listed #2 on the depth chart. The reason is because he gets open, moves the chains, and has great hands. Now that Romo is viewing the whole field, I think he will find Crayton more often than before.

His "funky chicken" needs work.

Crayton has really settled in nicely at whatever he is... #1 or #2... The guy runs great routes and has very good hands. I'm becoming a bigger and bigger Crayton fan with every passing week. Now, as long as he doesn't do interviews I expect that trend to continue.

He couldn't have possibly been out there catching those passes. All I've heard for 2+ years now is that he's not a good #2 WR and that he won't ever make any plays. Those who say that couldn't possibly be wrong. They told us all so for 2+ years now.

He's had huge games before. A few games a great receiver make not. I still dont think he is a good #2. He is serviceable as a #2 but great as a #3. Troy Hambrick had a 150+ yard rushing game.. so yeah.. If we get into the playoffs, how much confidence do you have in this guy to step up and possibly have to make a critical driving saving catch?

Perfectly stated!

Absolutely no confidence what so ever. Im still salty about the Giants game from 2 years ago.

Crayton has enough speed just not blazing speed. I was a 4.6 guy but I was always wide opened because I had superior quickness.

Yea and running good routes makes a big difference too...just ask Marvin Harrison...
