Crayton Request Release?

Whinning pro athlete who makes a ton of money for playing a game--what a quitter--he should show up and fight for his spot and shut up

I'm more interested in him possible blaming Romo for the reason why Roy Williams has struggled.

That is a bunch of bologna!

He danced around a bit. He didn't really blame Romo but threw out a bunch of excuses for Roy about every receiver having drops and no receiver can gain yards without the ball coming their way.

I think he's trying to make some noise to get out. I doubt he wants to directly go after Romo because he knows it would be a load of horse crap but if you dance around a bit and people get the feeling you're pointing the finger at Romo, you'll probably get your wish.

It was the same thing with Flotel and Hamlin though. Jerry even said that we released them when we did so they could catch on elsewhere. That's all Crayton wants here, a release now so he has a chance to sign and contribute to a team, fight for a #2 WR spot throughout a team's whole camp.

Otherwise, by the time we feel "comfortable" releasing him, camp battles are settled and he's trying to shoehorn himself in somewhere else, and he's really gained nothing.

Which lends itself to the argument that the Cowboys DO see Crayton being more than just an insurance policy. Do the cowboys REALLY want Dez to be the full time punt returner?!? This is not set in stone by any means.

Does Crayton still not have a role in the slot or 4 WR sets? This we certainly do not know. But its very possible that he does in Garrett's mind.

Crayton assumes if he stays he won't play. He might be right. But he might be wrong, too.

You obviously didn't listen to the podcast. That's okay, I'll point out what was said earlier.

He doesn't feel that the competition is open. He thinks that even though he will outproduce some of the other guys, he is viewed as a "progress stopper" and in the end won't be on the field.

I can empathize with his situation. It's a tough spot to be in.

That said, how is it different from so many other veterans that teams will hold onto until the week before the season starts?

Teams do what's in their best interests and sometimes that conflicts with what a player wants.

He asked for and received permission from the team to seek a trade. And guess what? He and his agent found no takers!

And now he doesn't like it and wants his outright release, where he gets what he wants and the Cowboys get nothing.

Sorry, I wouldn't do it and I don't expect the Cowboys to either.

One thing is nice, at least he's not lying about wanting to be here anymore.

That would be a great T-shirt.

I would definitely get a chuckle out of somebody wearing that T-Shirt.

But it is Patrick Freakin Crayton, so making the T-Shirt probably isn't worth it :laugh2: .

I disagree. I think that Crayton was just going above and beyond to be an apologists for Roy so that he didnt come across as having anything but the highest respect for the members of his "brotherhood". Romo is not a receiver. Romo isn't a part of Crayton feeling like he is being squeezed out.

How did he suggest anything like that?

If anything he has some perspective on himself and his career mortality and it not displaying arrogance here.

If he was, he would be angry but also defiant and confident that no matter if the team released him at the end of camp he would have no problem finding another team in short order. He would anyway, but he does realize he's 30 plus and his options would be limited the later on he is released.
Did you listen to the interview? That is what he thinks. Otherwise why would he be so adamant that he wants to be released? I don't think it's so he can sign for vet min with a bad team to be their 3rd WR and backup punt returner.

What he doesn't realize is that there might not be anyone who wants him. Or, guess what, if they do they probably don't want him as more than a 4th or at best 3rd WR, just like here. Only he'd likely be making less money.

Which happens to be $2,000,000 this year, by the way. Yeah, maybe you are insurance. So what? You're getting two million bucks for it. That's more than you're worth.

I've defended this guy before, but he sounded as confused as Greg Ellis in that interview with the way he wandered all over the place. These young guys are talented and need to play. But if they had a competition I'd beat them. But it won't be a fair competition. I know they don't want me. But I haven't talked Jerry or Wade since the playoff game. Around and around.

The bottom line is that he got butt-hurt because his name was shopped during the draft. Big deal. You think you're the only ballplayer a GM talked ever about trading? And did you consider that apparently no one wanted you when we asked?

Bah.

Send him on his way so he'll stop *****ing and moaning about making 2 million a year. :bang2:

I can see both sides of the equation. They're still holding out hope they'll get a draft pick in return for a trade.

And I wouldn't want him going anywhere near the NFC East. We don't need a WR with his talent and a chip on his shoulder playing us twice a year.

I'd be pissed if I was Crayton, too. He's right, he's that insurance guy. Which is fine for the team, but at 31 he's got to do what's best for him. 7th rounder who beat the odds, he's got about one more shot at making some money. He can read the tea leaves, and as much as he wants to stay a Cowboy they've shown that they're ready to move on. Plenty of other teams could use a possession receiver who can return some punts - so why not push for a release?

I hope he gets it. With Dez and Otree on the roster there is no reason to keep him around. Hurd stays as the 5th and STer. Everyone is happy.
Please, I don't see any other receivers whining. Go, I am sick of this guy taking everything to the media. The Cowboys have done a good job of getting rid of players like this and this needs to continue with Crayton. What a baby. This dude doesn't deserve any special treatment. Earn it and stop crying about it.

As big of a baby he's being as never being more than a #3, he's been a good receiver. If we really can't get anything for him, I think he should get his wish.

No other receivers are outproducing guys in front of them on the depth chart.

Can you make this my user name? Or is that too long?

 They haven't had the opportunities. This guy is not worth it. If T.O. wasn't worth it(which he wasn't), Crayton is definitely not. He isn't going to start and we have depth at WR.

What do you mean? Roy Williams started all damn season and Crayton still provided more value to the team.

Wow he had 24 more receiving yards, 2 less TD's than Roy. Yes he really burned it up at there.
I am talking about the non starters. Roy is going to start regardless of Crayton's whining. I am talking about Ogletree, Bryant, etc. This team isn't going to miss Crayton. Good bye.

Which is exactly his point. No matter what he does, he can't get any better than #4.
