Crayton Request Release?

boo hoo, cry me a river. He is under contract. If Dallas views his value as a 4th or 5th WR that is what he is. If Crayton does not agree go prove them wrong.

Everyone wants something for nothing. Not a damn thing in this life is guaranteed.

Whoo hoo, one guess was correct, I guess my theory is destroyed!

Crayton moves the chains. That's all the guy has done since he got here. No it isn't flashy, but the Cowboys don't need him to be. They need at least one consistent chain mover and that's him. If you want to roll the dice on an entire position's worth of unproven guesswork, I'll simply remind you that this ain't Madden.

The Cowboys are in a position to make a real push. Now isn't the time for "potentially might be great if only if only if only".

Better "potentially might be great" than never was and never will be great.

WAHHHH I make millions and Im gonna cry about it...

My heart bleeds for poor Patrick Crayton.

He's the only one in the NFL who is fighting for a roster spot, after seeing younger, more talented players emerge on the roster.

Poor, poor, Patrick Crayton.

The thing is, he is a human being who's career is on the line. He wants to play, not just get paid. Most of these athletes dream of it their whole lives. They measure their success by how much they contribute to a team.

Why wouldn't he see the writing on the wall? Maybe the Cowboys owe it to themselves to let him go. I didn't think about it until today, but after today I really do understand Patrick's situation. He only has x amount of years left. And when football is over, he has to start doing something else with his life. This is a dilemma for retired athletes. See Hambrick. Some never get their degree and their money goes quickly because they seldom think long-term.

I'm not saying that's the case for Patrick Crayton. Because if he stays here, he gets 2mil. People are fortunate to make that in their lifetimes. The problem is he wants to play football because sitting at home sucks even when you're wealthy.

I think the Cowboys owe it to him. He's been a stand up player.

Actually, Crayton said his agent requested his release when other teams started calling after the Cowboys put him up for trade. He said that was the way he found out he was no longer in the Cowboys' plans for the future. He also said he knows he won't be released because he is insurance.

Since other players have been released this year, why wouldn't Crayton request a release as well?

Which other players asked for a release?

Crayton feels 'betrayed,' wants out of Dallas; team won't release him

Dont think Crayton has a chance to just be let go. This is a season with a decent chance of the Boys going to the Super Bowl.

I would imagine that the front office would not release Crayton to make sure they have reciever depth in case of injury/non production from the youngsters.

I'm sure you would hear the howls of anguish around the web from folks of this site if they let Crayton go to early and the wr core is decimated by injury. Crying and moaning about a potential SuperBowl season being lost at the outset.

And what would a disgruntled loud mouth do all year if we don't have several injuries at WR?

He has not missed a single mandatory event. I do not know what is worse, his whining or the bleating from fans who demand he attend OTAs.

Until he does miss something that counts, he is under no obligation whatsoever and not violating any term of his contract.

Voluntary. Some people don't get it.

Naw, they get it but if you've ever played any organized team sport, you know that "voluntary" means to be present along with the rest of your teammates. That's what a team does, they show up together....

They don't owe him his release because he's been a standup player. He's being paid and paid well to be a standup player, to do his job to the best of his ability.

It isn't like when the time came for Crayton to get a new contract with Dallas, he said, "I'll take less than I can get elsewhere because I owe it to you." He and his agent negotiated for the best deal he could get.

Just because the circumstances of his job have changed, it doesn't give him any right to make demands about how he should be treated. His job is to play football in whatever capacity the team that pays him, that gave him bonus money, needs him to.

If Dallas took the "standup" player approach to every player on the roster, the team would be in bad shape. Look at the Marcus Spears situation, for example. The Cowboys simply did what it took to retain him because ultimately, they have to make the best decisions to make their "business" successful.

The Cowboys' stance really has little to do with Crayton and everything to do with what's best for the team. Contrast how Spears has reacted to his situation to how Crayton has dealt with it. Spears shows how a "standup" player should handle it.

"To me, you're messing with people's careers and people's lives."

I find this quote some what amusing. The guy is scheduled to make $2 million this season, how exactly are they messing with his life or career?

Hearing his comments arent that surprising, I always thought he was a mental midget and he just confirmed it. Same guy that crumbled vs the Giants in the playoffs now cant handle competition from RW or a rookie.

I agree with what the guys on the Lunch Break said. He is going down the Greg Ellis road.

Hang on a minute. Even if he got cut, it wouldn't end his career. If he's good enough, some other team will pick him up.

And if he isn't, we don't want him anyway.

If this is all so terribly unfair, he's free to go sell insurance or open a restaurant like a million other Americans.

Yeah, I get it. I'm just saying the guy wants to play. Typically, the better your career stats, the better your revenues from your restaurant or insurance company.

No kidding.

And the kicker is, no one even knows this will happen. It's something Patrick has concocted in his head. Jerry is known for being more than fair about releasing guys early if a player doesn't fit into the team's plans.

Someone needs to tell Patrick there are no people under the stairs.
