Crayton trade question

Question is, what could we truly get for Patrick, realistically? A 4th at the most? A backup C or G perhaps? Ceveland or Miami have any depth on their OL?

I'm concerned about this too. If Pat's been given permission to seek a trade and we still haven't heard even a whiff of 1 possible thing, and now he's saying "cut me", I'm starting to think that there's no market out there for him.

Maybe Corey Procter back from Miami.

I think that this is a question that can only be answered once TC starts. Crayton's value may or may not be great now but I guarantee that if a team loses a starter or a 3rd WR or both, is value will increase 10 fold.

Not much....we already have a backup guard in Holland and a backup center in Bright on the roster. I'd rather have a draft pick but it will be a low one. No way we get a 4th.

If a team like say Miami lost a starter at WR, I think we could get a 4th or maybe even a 3rd. It depends on the team and injuries IMO but yeah, if we just have to try and get whatever for him, then nobody will trade for him. They will wait till he gets released.

are you suggesting Crayton could START for Miami...in a division with the Jets, Pats...and to a lesser degree the Bills. What Patrick Crayton are you talking about?

There is. In a couple of months.

Yes. At the least, he could be a 3rd WR. Listen, if you lose a couple WRs and your faced with playing real football in a couple of weeks, it's more important that a WR understand where he's supposed to be, who he's supposed to be blocking and be able to make sure that if you can't make the catch, the DB doesn't either.

It's not necessarily about being talented enough to play and win in that division. At some point, you have to give yourself a chance to put a decent product on the field so yeah. Under the right conditions, that's exactly what I'm saying.

I stated day 1 there is no market and that's pretty clearly the case. His agent has permission to shop him yet has not noted even one team interested in trading for his services.

Note the spate of trades happening in the league right now?

No one is trading now, because they are checking out their new rookies, and seeing what players have advanced themselves from the bottom of the roster. Or declined from the top.

Once the inevitable injuries happen during training camps, and coaches have a more informed idea as to who is going to step up, or step out, teams will be more interested in a dependable, reliable slot guy.

However, they are not going to break the bank to pick Crayton up. Still, with the number of ex-Cowboys coaches throughout the league, there will be opportunities for Crayton. Right now, NFL coaches are focused on their own guys, and GMs are waiting to see if JJ blinks first.

The main issue at this point besides his contract is that he has destroyed any value he may have had by staying away and recently running his mouth. If I was Jerry, I would tell him to stay away from the facility until the team decides what they are going to do with him. If it's within the rules, I'd hold him until the final cuts and cut him if no trade can be found. I don't care what anyone says, he has hurt the team severly by his actions. He has now basically removed any chance of being a Dallas Cowboy this year as well as taken his trade value down to zero. That has weakened the team's depth at WR and cost then any chance at getting something in return for the investment they have made in him. One injury to Austin, RW11, or Dez and he will be needed. They took a chance on a small school QB, converted him to WR, coached him up, gave him the time he needed to develop, and gave him a very nice contract extension. Now they will get no return on that investment because he decided he is too good to compete for his job and decided to run his mouth. There are now 31 other teams that know Dallas cannot allow him back into the lockeroom so noone will trade for him now.

Whether Crayton likes it or not, it's in the Cowboys' best interest to keep him on the roster, at least until training camp starts. It would not make any sense at all to just cut him. If we do want to part ways with him, we should wait to see how many WRs get hurt in TC. Hell, one of ours could get hurt and we could still need him. Personally, I'd like to keep him all season. He's a valuable player.

Offseason is the time for harsh words. I doubt, even if Crayton returns, he's going to be a bad influence. Players wanting contracts or wanting more playing time always mouth off like this. Then they put it behind them when it's time to play.

That's just part of the business. And I expect Crayton to do likewise when it's time for training camp and when it's time to play.

You are right. I would not cut him now. If his agent can find a trade then fine otherwise I would wait to see what shakes down.
