1. Patrick Crayton isn't getting any younger. He's as gritty as they come, but if you heard Bryan Broaddus' appearance on the D.C. Fanatic Show last night, you heard him put Crayton's 40 time in the 4.72 range.

Yikes.

40 times can be overrated. Crayton has great hands and gets open a lot. You have to consider the 40 time of the person covering him. Rarely is a 4.4 CB going to Crayton because they will be on Austin and Roy.

Which means?

He doesn't seem to have a problem getting open.

sure he can get open but what could be 40 yard gains are 20 yard gains cause of his lack of speed.

He has always been more quick than fast and if you look at how many big plays he has a lot he gets yac yards better than some fast wr.

Slot wr are not about speed but getting open and presenting a target

He returned 2 punts for TD's last year and had 5 regular season receiving TD's. How fast do you want him to be?

You thought Crayton was fast? I think he's a little faster than 4.72 but he's definately no speedster.

40 times are extremely overrated. Look at Brandon Marshalls 40 time coming out of college. Or A Boldins 40 time. Even Larry Fitzgerald. These guys all ran 4.5 or worse. Look at Wes Welker. That man catches 120 passes a year with a 40 time worse than Craytons.

Quick enough to get open is what matters. And smart enough to read the coverage and react. Instincts mean more than 40's.

Is there a "2." to this?

He is fast enough to make plays. 40 time is great but I think how a player uses his speed is just as important. Great rout runners know how to accelerate in and out of their breaks to gain the separation they need to make the play.

Even on deep routs it is not all about speed if you can make a move to get the DB to bite then take it up field you gain the needed separation to make the play.

I find it a bit strange before the combine many will say how the 40 is over rated and yet once the 40's have been ran it seems to be the focal point on these player.

He seemed faster last year.

I thought the same thing. haha. I swore there was something I missed.

And Crayton gets open and makes catches. He's a top 5 slot receiver in the NFL. I trust him more than Roy.

Most Reliable Hands: Witten, Crayton, Austin

Yes, in that order because Miles has only done it for one season. I'm one of the biggest Miles Austin fans (dirty jerz!), but I'd like to see him perform at this level again.

PC is smart, dependable, decent speed, great hands, gets open, makes clutch 3rd catches, good solid vet, and a good person and teammate. I'll take that over a 40 time any day.

He went to the Michael Johnson training center to work on his speed.

I think he was clocked at 4.6 coming out of college. After working on his speed with Michael Johnson, he should probably be in that same range.

Wait.

Are you telling me that Patrick Crayton is not a speedster?

I feel so used.

Crayton averaged 16.81 yards per reception last year, which was the second best on the team behind Sam Hurd. The lowest average he has had for a single season is 13.50 yards per reception and he averages 14.73 yards per reception for his career

There is a certain speedy receiver in Miami who averages 13.00 yards per reception for their career and a best season of 14.11 yards per reception.
