Even with the worst defense in NFL HISTORY, Dallas should still be 9-5 right now.

It took throwing away 90% probabilities of winning the game to choke away Detroit and Green Bay.

Lesson is that all Dallas truly needs is game management knowing that even going three and out and chewing up 2:00 of clock is better than risking INTs or just 20 seconds coming off the clock.

For all those who want to blame the defense, it hasn't killed the team nearly as much as the game management. You can plan around a bad defense as Garrett has actually done fairly successfully this year.

However when you've found a way to have success in spite of the WORST DEFENSE IN NFL HISTORY, it makes in even more inexplicable to throw the games away.

Does not help when Referees are lacking .....
Again disappointed in their calls.

I know it's a common theme - for me.

But watching week after week after week and missed calls - not even balanced in the same direction. When plays are equal. It's the same ref making the call one way then not calling same the other way. Game speed and positioning have passed these guys by.

Refs may not help, but even they can't get in the way when all Dallas has to do is run the ball and the clock out. Well except for the penalty on third down against Detroit. But our coaches should tell the players to basically just stand there so they can't call a penalty on you. That's ALL that has to be done is just keep the clock going. Even kneel downs would be better

I dont disagree that there were some blown calls, but I don't think they were as bad yesterday as they have been.

Sorry, but there was no way they were taking enough time off the clock to win this game. Whatever situation the GB offense needed to get a TD on, they were going to get. We've seen that rerun too many times.

What they tried didn't work, so they deserve all of the blame. But the idea that the run was the only call, first down or not, because it chews up time is silly.

Please. We should be 3-11. We've only gotten this far because our division is so awful.

We're a bad team. It's easier once you accept that.

I don't mean just the last drive. It goes to the end of the 3rd quarter when Troy and Buck were killing Dallas for only running 20 seconds off the clock. The way the run game was going for 7 ypc, it would have gotten at least a couple first downs. Green Bay had to score 5 TDS!,

Their time of possession in the 2nd half was 1:52, 5:24, 2:14, 3:38 and 1:15. That adds up to 14:20 roughly of game time. Dallas on the other hand had two drives at the end of the third and in the 4th that totaled 1:08 and 1:31. Each of those should have been 4:00 drives with the way the run game was dominating and GB would never have had as much time as needed to come back.

Bottom line is yes it IS as simple as just running the clock down.

All teams get bad Ref calls from time to time. It does not keep them from imploding in games.

No, it isn't and I agree that we should have run more. But you are acting like you know that we pick up first downs running the ball. You don't. Every pass we threw was not incomplete. The time we would have burned with a few extra runs would not have burned enough time to win the game. There are no limits to what can be achieved against our defense. They go into their hurry up a bit earlier and they still have plenty of time. Five drives is not unusual at all in a half where you receive the kickoff. Not at all. There was plenty of time.

Now if we pick up even 2 or 3 first downs running then you're right, we absolutely win. No question about it.

Everyone knows how bad this defense is. What we tend to forget is this offense settled for too many field goals early. The defense only gave up 3 points in the first half. Our offense had the ball for all of 1:38 on the last two drives. Play selection was complete BS throughout the entire game. Is it ok to blame the defense for this loss? Absolutely not. 48 pass attempts to 18 run plays, not good. We should have owned time of possesion by a wide margin in this game the way our running game was working. Romo and JG deserve all the blame for this loss. These two clowns need to take their circus act somewhere else.

LOL, have you lost your mind? Man, it's uncanny how many people have basically said that we have the worst defense in NFL history, but it's okay because we already know it.

Tell me, is there ANY bound on how bad the defense can be despite us knowing it? Do people have any idea how rare of a feat it is to give up 40 first downs, 51 points, 5 straight touchdowns in ONE HALF... these are mind-blowing things being dismissed just so we can get to blaming the offense. What a joke.

Still the bottom line is, in spite of the defense, the 31 other NFL teams would be 9-5 if in our situation because they would have managed the clock properly against Detroit and Green Bay. That's literally the ONLY thing between us and clinching a berth this weekend.

Yes we have blown it spectacularly in the last two years. That is mostly on the HC.

its just bad luck
this franchise is trending up and i like the trajectory they are on under garrett
i would sign and lock him up for 10 years

these statements have been made by "football people" on the board this year to explain away garrett's incomptency

Nice stat, that has to be on the HC, no other way around it.

But Jerry loves that. It makes Cowboys football exciting, at least in his eyes.

Part is the HC, the other part is not having talent available.

Trading multiple high draft picks for a weak CB. Overpaying for another weak CB. Wasting ANOTHER 2nd round pick on a TE who we don't use. Wasting multiple 2nd round picks on injured players because of their supposed "value".

Great work by the GM. Always hits the mark.
