The Giants are the only team in the History of the NFL to have a negative point differential and be in the superbowl. That's right they have given up more points than they have scored.

That's just crazy. Beyond crazy.

And now all those that think we can't win a superbowl with what we have might just have to get a better grasp on today's NFL.

I heard this stat about 11 hours ago and it's still making me SMH.....

In fact if they are were to win the superbowl they would have to do it by 5 or more points to be on the positive side.

If you include the postseason, they're already on the positive side.

They were outscored by six points during the regular season. In the postseason, they've outscored their opponents by 42 points (22, 17 and 3).

Here's another: Sean Lissemore has the Cowboys' longest kick return of the year

I thought it was 4 points. Saw it on NFL network.

By the way, here's another crazy fact -- in NFL history, only three teams have made the playoffs after losing their ninth, 10th, 11th AND 12th games in a season. All three have come in the past six seasons, and all three teams have come from the NFC East -- the 2006 Giants, the 2007 Commanders and the 2011 Giants. (The 2006 Giants and 2007 Commanders both lost their first playoff game.)

This year's Giants are only the second team ever to lose five times from Game 9 to Game 14 (five losses in those six games) and still make the playoffs. The 2006 Giants were the first.

Except it's not true. Lissemore had the highest average -- 38.0 yards on one return. But Felix Jones had a 69-yard return against Arizona, and Dwayne Harris had a 51-yard return against Philadelphia.

Lissemore did, however, have a longer return than anyone on the Eagles, Patriots, Falcons, Jaguars or Chiefs.

Wow. In my mind you can pretty much draw a line in the history books at the FA era. 2 things, obviously FA but exPansion is the 2nd.

This league has changed so much since we last went to a superbowl. Teams like the ones you pointed out to above didn't have a prayer of going on a streak like that and making the Playoffs. Wow

You'd have to be blind to not see how FA and expansion have affected the NFL.

Wild card Super Bowl champions

1980 Oakland Raiders-Super Bowl XV (played in 1981)
1997 Denver Broncos-Super Bowl XXXII (played in 1998)
2000 Baltimore Ravens-Super Bowl XXXV (played in 2001)
2005 Pittsburgh Steelers-Super Bowl XL (played in 2006)
2007 New York Giants-Super Bowl XLII (played in 2008)
2010 Green Bay Packers-Super Bowl XLV (played in 2011)

Other Wild card Super Bowl participants

1975 Dallas Cowboys-Super Bowl X (played in 1976)
1985 New England Patriots-Super Bowl XX (played in 1986)
1992 Buffalo Bills-Super Bowl XXVII (played in 1993)
1999 Tennessee Titans-Super Bowl XXXIV (played in 2000)

I know that's not right. I remember Felix and harris having longer ones.

What to the Buffett line?

My mistake, Dan Connolly. Now explain to me how 34 can shove a Green Bay player in the back at the 12 yard line in front of the official not 10 feet away whereby that player almost takes out the official and no flag is thrown?

It's not mind blowing or crazy at all when you are able to accept the truth that they have a core group of real football players that man up when their season is on the line. It's that simple. It's not Eli or any one player. It's the majority of the team that just refuses to lose when losing means the season is over. I have no idea why they play poorly sometimes in week 1 through week 14 but there's no denying they come to play when their season is on the line.

Yeah. They did a great job of "manning up with their season on the line" the previous four seasons.

That certainly is true; it only happens now and then that they 'man up."

Still they have done it twice.

When have we done it at all?

2009 alone, unfortunately.

I guess that's one way of looking at it.

What I posted though is not an opinion of a situation. they are facts. They were outscored by their opponents on the year. Not hardly a team to model yourselves after. Seems like fools gold to me.

In fact most of today's NFL is full of fools gold. Parity via FA and exPansion has completely changed the NFL as we know it.

Now the games are closer which for the NFL is good. Draws in more and more of the casual fan. But the top teams are far from being great and one could say they are borderline average.

Bills, steelers, 49ers, cowboys, packers, and even broncos of the 95-96 seasons would crush them. I'm guessing 21 or more points every single time.

The Giants dominated the Falcons. And I do mean dominated them. The Falcons only points were via a Safety! The Giants dominated the Packers...in there own backyard. The score makes the game seem closer than it was...but very poor officiating gave the Packers 14 points. The Giants beat Frisco in bad weather on their home field. Eli dropped back and threw the ball 58 times against a very good defense...he was hit 20 times and kept bouncing back. They deserve to be there and I think they will beat the Pats....AGAIN!
