Like many of you have heard me say...a creative offensive mind with the right personell can expose Greg Ellis as an OLB all day long.

Well the Cardinals are coming off a bye. They are rested and have had plenty of time to study tape of the Cowboys. Beating the Cowboys would make their season. It would take a ton of pressure off of Dennis Green.

And Dennis Green has the offensive weapons and offensive mind to expose Ellis.

I said it before the Commanders game and I will say it again...we should start this game off in the 4-3!

Arizona is one of the worst in the league for a reason.......All you have to do is just play them striaght up and let them goof up. There is absolutely no way that they should win..........Just go in there, line up and simply outplay them.....no turnovers, no penalties, nothing special just strictly a better team doing what good teams to do bad teams....

Parcells referred to switching Ware and Ellis more often so Ellis is involved in the pass rush...to me that sounds like Ware would then be more involved in coverage, meaning not in the pass rush....<sigh>

I'll also add that losing to the Cardinals is definitely not an option...I'm sure there would still be a few fans talking about how we can run the tables and get into the playoffs, but we cannot lose to the Cardinals, nor should we. They don't have a top defense, and they have almost no running game, while they also cannot protect their QB, who happens to be a rookie in only his 3rd start?

No, I don't care about their bye week, if we lose to them there is just a serious problem, just as there was last week with the Skins, a team we were capable of dominating if not for mistakes across the board all game long.

I thought this thread was gonna be about getting a GREAT offensive mind to match this great offense we have....:D

Everybody keeps saying that Ellis is a liability in coverage, but in actuality his problems have been in the run defense. Out of the games I've charted, he rarely makes mistakes when in coverage and none of them have been huge enough to really cost Dallas. However, when opposing teams run the ball he tends to overcommit....a lot. I'll give Washington credit, they probably recognized that and saved up that option pitch play to Portis just for Ellis.

I'm not too worried about Ellis in pass coverage at this point. 3-4 OLB's aren't exactly great in coverage and the 3-4 scheme helps protect against their deficiencies. Dallas' run defense has been good this year, but weakspot in on the strongside. Some of it's due to the inconsistency of Spears, but Ellis should share some of the blame there as well.

I thought so as well. Although I would completely disagree. Dallas runs more different offensive formations and looks than 90% of the teams in the league and has some exceptionally creative and beautiful pass patterns.

I'd like to see a little more creativity on defense, but would be happy if they could disguise a blitz worth a damn.

So, you think we should go to a defensive scheme we haven't practiced or played since 2004 ........? While Ellis isn't the best OLB in covereage and while he certainly could move into the DE role and be fine, what about the rest of the front 7? How much sense does it make to put them all in unfamiliar roles?

if you can get the right wr on a lb it does'nt matter who the lb is he will get beat.ellis is quick but not fast but then again if you get fitzgerald on a lb it does'nt matter who the lb is he will beat him.thats why the lb's don't usually cover down field as much as i space.i think we make too much of ellis's speed. 95% of the wr's in the nfl can beat 95% of the lb's in the league if they are locked on them one on one

But the point above about Ellis having more trouble against the run is valid. Nobody expects him to cover a WR downfield. I have seen him bite too quickly on run/sweeps and lose the edge.

I have no idea whether they did or not. But if you watch Ellis closely enough, he's been overcommitting on the run too often. And that's one of the reasons why the play the Skins called worked so well.
