Pass
Cowboys front office and McCarthy for not giving away their top draft target at #26.
They seem to be more secretive since McCarthy arrived.

Successful Evaluation
It seems that the players that @AsthmaField liked, where drafted significantly higher than most of the draft media rankings.

It's as if he actually watches game footage and forms his own opinions instead of repeating draft media opinions...

Devon Witherspoon: **'s favorite player. I don't remember any media rankings with him as a top 5 pick.

Jahmyr Gibbs: Early on ** had him rated as a 1st round pick.

Emmanuel Forbes. Early on ** had him rated as a 1st round pick and had him rated as a top 3 CB.

Dalton Kincaid: **'s favorite TE. He was the only TE drafted in the 1st round.

Aaron Donald: ** predicted greatness when many people thought he was too small...

Successful "Inside" Reporting
Todd Archer is the only media person that I saw report that Mazi Smith was a target.

Best Player on a Bad Media Team
The 105.3 Draft Broadcast Team would each give their rankings of players after a player was drafted.
Some woman named Iisha Morrison seemed to be far more accurate than anybody else on the Draft Show.
Team: Shan Shariff, Bryan Broaddus and Bobby Belt will be joined by Kyle Youmans and Iisha Morrison

Failed Reporting
All media members that said the Cowboys were infatuated with drafting at TE at #26.
Jane Slater, Bryan Broaddus, Nick Eatman, etc., etc...

Real Time Draft Coverage Fail
Bryan Broaddus would give one or two players before each pick that he was certain would be the pick.
I don't remember him ever being correct.

Pass/Fail
Me.
Pass for noticing before the draft that Todd Archer reported Mazi Smith as a Cowboys target at #26.
Fail for posting that the Cowboys would never draft a 1tech DT in the 1st round.

Pass
@Cowboyny for continuously posting thought provoking threads/questions during this draft season.

Pass
Everybody that routinely posted in the DraftZone for being more informed than the average "during the season" fans.

Mazi Smith was not their top draft choice at #26 (but was much higher on their board than people realised)
Todd Archer is more connected than anyone around the organisation.
Also, the clues were there for a pass at TE. Stephen Jones talking about the depth at the position before the draft.

@AsthmaField - Gettin the love!! Nice work.

@xwalker - you can't grade yourself harshly for something that hasn't happened in over 3 decades. "Fail for posting that the Cowboys would never draft a 1tech DT in the 1st round.".
I thought it was a safe bet...Good thing I didn't go to Vegas on that one...:starspin:

I think people can be given a pass on not expecting Dallas to draft a 1Tech that early. They have seemed flat out allergic to the thought for decades and I was completely of the same opinion (thought the player would have to be a generational talent that dropped a full round further than expected or something like that).

If this is Mike McCarthy's influence then I have to give him props. It will be nice to potentially be able to stop the run with this kid anchoring the middle.

Obviously he was not the #1 overall player on their board.

He was their top target that they expected to make it to #26 from what I'm hearing now.
- He was their target when several picks before #26, KC and another team called about moving up to #26.
- i.e. KC wanted to draft Mazi which is why the Cowboys immediately declined the offer.

Do you think if Kincaid had been there they would have still taken Smith?

At what pick in the draft did Smith shoot to the top of their board?

They turned down the KC offer before the Kincaid pick, reportedly because KC wanted Mazi.

They clearly wanted Kincaid. Pretending otherwise is silly.

That being said, it has no impact on whether or not Mazi was the right pick once Kincaid was gone.

People need to stop pretending the Jones or this Front Office is some sort of evil genius.

What's slightly odd is that they were discussing it right until the last minute when they were on the clock. If they turned down the offer before, what were they discussing? If there was still some debate perhaps that should have been done when the offer came in. Looks like they were second guessing themselves

Clearly the brain trust was going to take Kincaid. Anyone watching knows just how obvious it was.

If Archer was correct Buffalo moving ahead of them and taking Kincaid would not have sparked a 10 minute debate before deciding on Mazi. I am glad we were forced to take Mazi but I am not going to pretend like that was the plan all along.

Could be right.

I think Kincaid is the better player, but, seeing how the TE class stretches and the DT class doesn’t I kind of like the idea of taking Mazi and seeing who slides.

I don't think Kincaid was the target. I think the debate might have been more heated if he had been there, but I think the intent was to take Mazi. I do think the debate was possibly TE vs. DT. I think the TE they were debating was LaPorta.

Right. Kincaid was gone, so they were clearly not debating him.
