Crennel, Chiefs courtship bogs down
Posted by Mike Florio on January 13, 2010 7:38 AM ET
Amid reports that former Browns coach Romeo Crennel will become the next defensive coordinator of the Chiefs, Crennel's agent says that the job has not yet been offered to Crennel.

"Would he take it if they offered the job?" agent Joe Linta told the Kansas City Star. "I suppose he would."

Linta told the Star that Crennel has discussed the position with Chiefs coach Todd Haley. Linta also said that the Chiefs get the "first shot," and that four other teams are interested in Crennel.

One such team is the Giants. We've also heard that the Commanders made a run at him, but the Commanders have since hired Jim Haslett.

The Dolphins also could be interested, which would pit Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli against his father-in-law, Miami V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells.

Regardless of how it all works out, putting public pressure on the Chiefs likely isn't an ideal strategy. Unless Linta's ultimate objective is to place Crennel elsewhere.

I hope he steers clear of the Giants.

Report: Chiefs, Crennel do a deal
Posted by Mike Florio on January 13, 2010 10:13 AM ET
Agent Joe Linta recently told the Kansas City Star that, if the Chiefs were to make an offer to Romeo Crennel, he would accept it.

Apparently, the offer has come.

Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports that the Chiefs and Crennel have struck a deal that will make Crennel the team's new defensive coordinator.

Per Nick Wright of KCSP, an announcement currently is expected to come on Friday -- and current defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast is not expected to be fired.

Coach Todd Haley recently told Wright that the Chiefs wanted to hire Crennel last year, but health issues prompted Crennel to take some time off.

The move gives the Chiefs the two coordinators -- Crennel and Charlie Weis -- who left the Patriots after winning their third Super Bowl in four years.

Good.

Well good luck to him. Maybe he'll have more success at this, once more, than he did as an HC.

Well Todd Haley has 2 proven coordinators. But it still comes down to the head coach in the end.
