Cris Carter Says Witten Not All That

I havent listened to anything today, but just put on BSPN radio a few mins ago. There was a a commercial playing some conversation from Mike & Mike. Greeny was referring to Romo's comment about Witten being the greatest Cowboy ever and then CC chimed in. He said NO, and we dont even know if Witten is a Hall of Famer. Greeny questions him and then CC says something to the effect that Witten isnt a threat that opposing teams game plan for and has just happened to play in an era where he has benefited from Romo forcing him the ball all the time. Then he says Romo is just throwing some junk out there with those comments.


Did anybody hear this on Mike & Mike this morning?


You just cant make this stuff up.

Carter can call it what he wants. However you cannot question the raw stats. And those are outstanding at the TE position. That's in addition to Witten being an above average blocker. Carter usually gives decent insight on that show. Obviously I disagree with this opinion of Witten. He is also an arrogant son of a gun.

Who knows? Maybe Witten's career will be viewed by HOF voters like Tim Brown's. A guy who has accumulated excellent stats but can't seem to garner enough HOF votes.

I agree that carter usually has some good comments and good insight.

In this case he may have got hyped up and put foot in mouth.

It happens to most everyone from time to time.

But really can't see much sense in his statement.

And I would put money down that witten will be HOF as soon as eligible.

That is because Williams is a receiver. He is supposed to be a bigger threat because of his speed and downfield plays. Witten blocks for him if needed, and Witten goes over the middle if needed for a first down.

Don't try and compare a receiver to a tight end. If Witten does not pick up those first downs, Williams might not get the chance to go deep. You are comparing dogs and cats.

But Romo should have said "one of the best ever" and covered all the bases...not THE best Cowboy. That was silliness.

Jason Witten is the Art Monk of TEs. One of the reasons it took Art Monk so long to get in the HOF was because opposing teams/coaches (Bill Parcells in particular) indicated that they were never worried about and did not game plan for Art Monk...they were more concerned with Gary Clark. But Art Monk eventually got into the HOF....and along that same vein....Witten will probably get in as well. Let's just hope he can somehow win a ring before he hangs it up.

Jason Witten is the Art Monk of TEs.

Monk had a few seasons early when he was considered among the best at his position, then clearly fell out of that status, but kept playing long enough to compile huge career numbers. Witten has basically kept that status for 10+ years.

I don't know that there is an Art Monk of TE. Maybe Shockey, if he were still playing.

Terence Willams is actually the number 2 receiving option behind Dez really. He's made way more of a impact with 5 td's already. Witten may have slightly more receptions but Williams is the bigger threat.

Like I said... Witten is the #2 receiver on the Dallas Cowboys, behind only Dez Bryant.

There's only one set of facts and your opinion doesn't change them.

I think people are making more than it actually is, nothing wrong with throwing a bone to your friend even if that means the statement is a little exaggerated. In Romo's eyes, Witten probably actually is the best player he's seen in a Cowboy uniform, especially since he didn't play with Staubach, Irvin, Emmit, ect;

I don't think Witten is a slam dunk Hall of Famer. I think he eventually gets in but it will probably take him him several years like some of the other notable WRs.

I think the biggest thing that will hurt Witten is this passing era that he's playing in where defenses are practically neutered and the TD numbers aren't overly impressive. For some reason he's never been much of a threat inside the 10 yard line. Seems like we've underutilized him in that regard.

Nice reference. Sometimes it's these " move the chains" types of guys who really keep drives alive so the more known " names" get into the end zone.

Carter is one player that I never really cared for. He is clearly still abusing substances because he is talking out of his mind.

Overreaction to CC's comments in 3 ... 2 ... wait, it's already occurred. Nevermind.

I don't thnk it is over reaction. I probably won't agree with Romo's comment of greatest cowboys of all time, but CC was not showing any respect to Witten.
Aikman next day said that Witten is most team oriented players, does everything the coaches ask him to do.

Also if witten is the only guy who is getting all the catches, it would be easy to take him away from the game and he should not get all those yards and receptions

Carter can think what he likes but Witten is an outstanding all around TE. I could not stop laughing yesterday on the pass play to Dunbar where Witten is blocking with one hand and waving Dunbar to go behind him with the other hand. lol

I don't really Carter's wrong in that teams don't do too much gameplanning around Witten. All Seattle really did was put KJ Wright on him and bracketed him on the TD.

But the thing I HATE and that will never go away is the comparison between Witt and Gates. Gates has always been more of a WR than a TE, and he is a better receiver than Witten, regardless of what we want to say. But Witten is all-world as a complete TE, and nobody has EVER done it better in being both a blocker and receiver.
