Criticism of Dak

Lately, there has been a lot of criticism of Dak's performance. The factor the critics have not recognized is the need for Dak to drastically shorten his release time to cope with the immediate pressure he's been facing. Dallas' offense is timing-based. This means the QB's footwork is set by the play's timing. Dak has years' experience in a timing-based offense and practices his footwork almost obsessively. Now, on short notice, because of Tyron's injury, he's been asked to change his timing and footwork. No wonder he's been throwing off the wrong foot, throwing short, throwing high, etc. It's not realistic to expect him to learn new timing and footwork on short notice.

Fix the real problem--pass protection, that is quality depth on the OL.

Half the criticism of Dak is just, the other half just comes from fans who have a bad taste left in their mouth because of how Romo was replaced and his retirement came earlier then they hoped for.

Dak has problems with accuracy, he needs to work on it, no question about it.

No excuses. He has to play better if he wants to be a QB1 in this league.

The reason the offense is struggling is because teams simply do NOT fear our passing game and they are able to shut it down with ease because we cannot win one on one matchups consistently.

Some of that is on our WRs— and some of it is on Dak. He has to learn how to “throw” WRs open and his accuracy is not as sharp this year.

Bottom line is that the kid has had a mediocre year and has played his worst ball when he has been asked to shoulder the load and lead us to a win.

Dak has actually been an above-average passer in every category this season.

And really only 1 receiver has the dropsies on this team - Dez. Everyone else has an average to excellent catch %.

when there are no injuries, this team is 9-7, 10-6 (at best)...pretty darned good....but, they would be 12-4 to 14-2 with a legit coaching staff/plan....but, with injuries, they become an 7-9 to 8-8 team but with this coaching, 5-11.....hate to sound doom and gloom because I will be watching on thursday with a full belly and a beer in hand like all turkey days, but I have little hope unless the team is at full strength....when at full strength, they win despite the poor coaching

........and the opposing team coaches are telling their F.Cox, their Bosaoor send bltiz, to get immediate pressure on Dak to make him move and cant set his feet so his accuracy goes down...........thats football.

That is exactly what the Giants did in both their games last year to throw off Dak........If teams see his completion % drop 10 points under pressure....what do you think they are going to do

What then should Garrett counter move with (10 weeks late LOL)....injuries to the OLine are again, part of Football, Garretts scheme is inflexible and possibly cannot be changed up except to move Beasly to run outside 4 yd routes that Witten used to be hung with.........removing both from Daks line of sight.

I believe that is partially correct. Moreso to the point, some fans, who witnessed overcriticsm of Romo for circumstances outside his control, have reacted in the exact same manner to emphasize the inherit illogic. Unfortunately, Prescott has received the same treatment for almost exacting circumstances underscoring pure and unadulterated irony in its truest form. Neither quarterback should have/had such nonsense directed at them but there is a logical reason Romo’s successor receives misplaced commentary. The old saying is true. Karma is a *****.

Dak is a franchise QB. We could trade the fourth rounder for multiple picks, including a first rounder, tomorrow. However, he’s not having as great a year as he had last year. His decisions are sometimes questionable, and his accuracy has slipped a bit. No big surprise there. He and Wentz have simply swapped teams. Last year Wentz looked like a much worse draft pick, struggling with accuracy and decisions. This year Dak has the weaker team with key injuries, suspension, and defense, and he’s struggling in his sophomore year. Wentz is surrounded by a talented OL, better receivers, and better RBs, and he’s finding it much easier.

It was foolish to dismiss Wentz last year when his supporting cast was weaker, and it’s just as foolish to dismiss Dak for the same reason. This talk about Dak can only drive the bus in his second year if he has a perfect team is just stupid. The same thing could be said of Troy Aikman who never took the team on his back and struggled without Irvin and Smith.

Criticism of Dak is warranted. He's been pretty putrid the last few weeks and certainly not as sharp all year as he was last year.

That being said, I don't think you need to chuck him into the trash heap either. But there is no chance in hell, if I were the GM, that I'd let another year of his development get wasted on this coaching staff.

This idea that a QB can carry a team has been and always will be Horse Crap.

No qb is going to do much without protection or a good game plan and play calling and WRs that can catch, etc. Now SOME can inspire- Roger being one of the best and Joe Montana right up there. Their teams absolutely BELIEVED in them and would put out that little extra that made the difference.

In todays NFL maybe Brady has that but I am not sure. No one else so far to be blunt; because it is VERY rare. Payton Manning had it to some extent.

Dak to me is a much better Alex smith at this stage of his career. A cautious player who takes care of the ball but still makes plays; he clearly is better than Alex Smith at that. And there is a lot to be said for such a QB. Especially if you have a very strong run game. Of course the problem with that QB as Smith has shown over the years is when you get to the really big games a QB quite often is going to have to take chances and gamble. And succeed. Brett Favre was the exact opposite; and never really settled down. He was just so strong and his arm so good that he got away with it a lot more than he should have. Tony when he came out was also a gun slinger and it took years for him to reel it back. By the end of his career I think he had it about as balanced as it was possible to get and that was what made him so good those last few years. to me the key to Dak's eventual level of play is can he reach the point that he knows when to gamble and do it well.

The current problems are mostly due to the circunmstances: Dak is A YOUNG QB. 26 games as starter means he is LEARNING and there will be bad stretches of the road during that. BUT he has the discipline and dedication to over come it.

The REAL problem I see is I do not think we have the coaching staff to really get Dak to where he needs to be. Players we have are good enough overall; the coaching staff is not.

Part of the problem is he got out of the gate so fast that there was no expectation that he could and would regress. It happens. It also doesn't help that we linked him to Wentz last year and laughed at Philly when Wentz struggled and now Wentz is a legitimate QB and possibly a MVP candidate himself this year.

Dak isn't even in my top 5 concerns about this team, which are (in no particular order):

Offensive line isn't up to standards of recent years.
Defense continues to be average on a good day, awful on a bad one.
None of our receivers are a threat to run by the defense, so they're defensed accordingly.
Coaching lacks creativity, and if a key piece is missing they struggle to make any adjustments.
Jerry Jones is still in charge.

I couldn’t agree more.
