The Cowboys claimed running back Zack Crockett off waivers from Tampa Bay, filling the roster spot vacated when Roy Williams was suspended by the NFL.

Crockett is in his 13th year. He had one carry for Tampa Bay this year. He spent 1999-2006 with the Raiders, working with Cowboys' running backs coach Skip Peete. He has 1,701 yards rushing in his career, but he is also considered a top special teams' player.

This is interesting. Just one week? Or is someone going on IR or getting cut?

And we looked at Pinner the other day, too.

I bet Tyson Thompson isn't long for this world. Though it could be purely ST.

Makes sense

Watkins might be out until the playoffs and we need someone on the Special teams

Crockett is a decent player -- I saw him a lot with the Raiders. He is good short yardage back.

It also could be to protect ourselves in situations like the other day.

We lose gurode and fasano and then witten strained his neck.

When you only have 1 fb active and he is a little banged up still it can get dangerous.

You have to have the blocking before anything else. We almost got caught with our pants down the other day.

also I would like to add I bet we signed him because of the fact that Skip Peete is our running backs coach and skip worked with crockett for four years. So i bet he recommended him to the staff.

so if he works out we can probably thank skip peete!

now to counter that, we could have played with both rb on the field in barber and jones.

I'm sure Crockett has some good info on the Tampa Bay offense should we face them in the playoffs.....

No doubt, theebs. I think only having two RBs active for the game is very dicey anyway. Imagine if Julius got hurt early in a game? We all love Barber, but giving him every carry in a game wouldn't be smart.

The two back thing was OK with Anderson -- at least he can carry the ball if we get into a blowout or something. Hoyte has a total of 0 career carries. He was an LB in college so he didn't carry the ball then either.

Speak for yourself, I want to see Barber get 30 carries next week!

Zack played some FB too, if I remember correctly. But have they even been activating Tyson?

Crockett was likely picked up for special teams purposes and as an aside is a RB. If he ever sees any snaps I'd really be surprised.

Thompson won't be cut with only 2 games left and then the playoffs. Next summer I don't expect him to make the final 53. I'd like to trade him to the Dolphins however. You think BP would give us a 7th for him? :D

Interesting pickup. He has got to be in his mid 30's I think.

yeah but more in the old school sense where he actually carries the ball 3-4 times a game.
