the only thing that sets the table for Bobby's signing is the player's contract, taken in his spot a year ago, Dallas doesn't seem to let other team's draft pick signing activities influence them much beyond that

It helps to sign yours when you know what the guy above and below are getting. You are right about the year before. But the degree of the raise from the year before has to be set by someone. Pretty sure this is why Dallas always waits so late to sign their picks. They let the other teams do the dirty work and set the bar then there isn't much to haggle about. This year it seems everyone is trying the same trick.

if I'm not mistaken, there is already some sort of standard for how much more a player makes, than the person taken in that spot a year ago, idk, but I think you're right, but it's pretty amazing how there aren't any long, drawn-out contract squabbles in Dallas for rookies

To be honest man I'm not completely sure on all the details of how it works.

And yes rookies and their contracts have been a breath of fresh air and one less thing to worry about as a Dallas fan.
