I got to take the Stadium Tour yesterday..Well worth the $15 admission price. They say the tours last 1 to 1.5 hrs. Ours was at least 2 hrs. If you're a member of the True Blue Fan Club, I believe the Tour tickets are buy one, get one free. Be sure and ask about it when you get there.

Anyway, once we got to the Field Level Suites and Player Entrance areas, the tour guide mentioned that, while the crown on the Texas Stadium field was 18 inches, this one has a crown of only 6 inches due to the improved drainage system in place. I asked another tour guide about it, just to be sure I heard it right and he confirmed. I know some of you have wondered about it any time a tour/picture thread has come up.

I'll post more info from the tour once I have the pics (+-120?) available.

I was curious about that....the crown in Texas Stadium was crazy. I've never seen anything like it on a playing field.

Agreed.

When I stood on that field it looked like you had to make your throws up or down hill.

Good info, I was kind of hoping they were going to duplicate the crown from Texas Stadium. Always seemed like a decent home field advantage to me.

Brett Favre always had problems playing at Texas Stadium because of the high crown. He consistently overthrew his receives on the outside because of it. Of our QBs Aikman in particular seemed to have it worked out pretty well so it was definitely an advantage for us.

yea you're right Brett always had a hard time in games at Texas Stadium. It was really noticeable when he played there.

I had forgotten about that!

I used to love that. Favre was all jacked up because it was usually a playoff game anyway, and he was winging his passes over those receivers hands (in full leap mode) by a couple of feet. Always got him more rattled.

The crown deserves a lot of credit in not allowing Favre to get any early momentum going in those games.

Glad to be of service.

As a tease, one of the pics might very well be "Mecca" to some of the Buehler cultists out there.

One issue I always felt it gave was when throwing deep out type passes, it benefitted linebackers playing underneath. Due to the receiver being lower, you had to throw the ball lower. When bulleting the ball, the ball was even lower. The linebackers playing closer to the middle of the field were higher and had more of a chance to reach up as the ball passed overhead.

Granted, many times that wasn't the case, but it was always a concern.

That's always a convenient excuse.
