  • 2023 Salary Cap Number: $16.72 million
  • 2023 Compensation: $10.9 million
  • 2023 Dead Money: $11.86 million ($5.82 million with post-June 1 treatment)
  • 2023 Salary Cap Savings: $4.86 million ($10.9 million with post-June 1 treatment)
Elliott has been trending in the wrong direction statistically since becoming the first running back in NFL history to sign a $100 million contract. The two-time rushing champion signed a six-year, $90 million contract extension, which made him the league's highest-paid running back at $15 million per year, shortly before the start of the 2019 regular season to end a lengthy preseason holdout. Elliott, who had two years remaining on his rookie contact, established new standards for running backs with $50,052,137 in overall guarantees and $28,052,137 fully guaranteed at signing with deal.

The 2022 season was the worst campaign of Elliott's seven-year NFL career. Elliott had 231 rushing attempts for 876 rushing yards with 3.8 yards per carry, all career lows. He caught 17 passes for 92 yards, which were more career worsts.

Elliott is reportedly open to taking a pay cut to remain in Dallas. The Cowboys want Elliott back provided it makes sense financially.

Deleted my last post.

Supposedly, the secondary coach for Miami indirectly called out Jones for not playing this year at all.
His initial recovery date to return was August.

There were also rumors about him being disgruntled.

Cooks is the one they almost traded for and the Cowboys would have major interest. As of Bryon Jones, how healthy is he? Usually when the Cowboys move on from a player, he never comes back.

I'd offer him a modest one-year prove-it deal. The old and healthy Byron used to take out the best WRs.........

Disgruntled making 15 million a year for doing nothing?

Sounds like he should be grateful.

Yea, very odd situation with him in Miami. Think more may come out after he's officially cut.
Miami's secondary was banged up most of the year, but guys were playing through injury like Howard, but Jones decided he couldn't even practice.

IDK......The Byron Jones that left here was a stand-up high character guy. Remember him spending his entire 2nd or 3rd off-season following Jason Witten around and picking his brain about leadership. Of course, people/players change but he doesn't strike me as the kind of player dogging it. What if he tried to play through his injuries and was getting toasted game after game?

Byron Jones feels like the ideal type of pickup for the Cowboys. Should be a budget signing on a vet with (medicals pending) a solid shot at reestablishing his value at just 30 years old. Diggs paired with Jones along a couple young guys on the roster and possibly a 2nd round pick sounds pretty good to me.
