A total lack of ability to get his hands on the football? He doesn’t need to show anything. He was good for us
Oh no, that’s right…

Byron's first go-round was pretty darn good. You don't remember? No, he couldn't catch a cold but he would pretty much shut down our opponent's best WR.
Sure, but Players don’t typically go from making $16 million a year to vet minimum.Byron Jones feels like the ideal type of pickup for the Cowboys. Should be a budget signing on a vet with (medicals pending) a solid shot at reestablishing his value at just 30 years old. Diggs paired with Jones along a couple young guys on the roster and possibly a 2nd round pick sounds pretty good to me.
I doubt he'd take less than 10 million per year. But we like our guys, and he is one of our guysSure, but Players don’t typically go from making $16 million a year to vet minimum.
The save $13mil with post June 1 releaseThey'd have to really hate Byron to release him. Only gonna save just under 4 million, might as well keep him 1 more year.
Sure they do, it may happen to Zeke here in the near future. Even a 1 year/ $10MM type of deal would be a steal in my mind though. If he's #2 CB money with a #1 CB ceiling I'm all for it.Sure, but Players don’t typically go from making $16 million a year to vet minimum.

He wasn't good in Miami. Gave up a 117 QBR in 2020. 2021 was better but still close to 100Sure they do, it may happen to Zeke here in the near future. Even a 1 year/ $10MM type of deal would be a steal in my mind though. If he's #2 CB money with a #1 CB ceiling I'm all for it.
Maybe I'm wrong on what his market would actually be, but if it is a 1 year deal to re-establish his value for one last mega deal I think the Cowboys are an obvious option for Byron. He's familiar with the organization, no state income tax, an easy spot for him to slide into the starting lineup, and one of the best pass rushes in the NFL to make his job a little easier.
He doesn’t need to get his hands on the ball…we have a cb that can do that ..we have two actually ..we need somebody that can cover..he can..he did that very well for us..not sure what you are missing here…he’s what we needA total lack of ability to get his hands on the football?

$10 million is crazy high in my opinion. Especially given this team’s cap situation.Sure they do, it may happen to Zeke here in the near future. Even a 1 year/ $10MM type of deal would be a steal in my mind though. If he's #2 CB money with a #1 CB ceiling I'm all for it.

I’m not missing anything. Just like I wasn’t when I wished him well when he went and stole Miami’s money. He’s not a difference maker. He doesn’t need to get his hands on the ball…we have a cb that can do that ..we have two actually ..we need somebody that can cover..he can..he did that very well for us..not sure what you are missing here…he’s what we need
It's 2023. The keyword is "was". I would desire that he improved from the time he left Dallas for Miami. Free agency should (in my opinion) be an option of gaining a roster upgrade. Most free agent acquisitions are new additions to a roster, not redos. Would 2023 Byron Jones, who 'was good for us', be an upgrade of 2019 Byron James in your opinion? He doesn’t need to show anything. He was good for us
I do remember that he could not catch a cold also. Not sure I would invest in a player who regressed somewhat (when he was actually PLAYING for Miami) since his playing days here but I'm not Jerry Jones so...Byron's first go-round was pretty darn good. You don't remember? No, he couldn't catch a cold but he would pretty much shut down our opponent's best WR.
He was on the PUP list for 2022 due to ankle/Achilles surgery last March. His recovery timetable was pushed back from October to December to kaput. This, how many games has he played in for the Phins? Never seen him on the field.
People also overlook that he is a system player. He thrived in Gus Bradley designed coverage schemes. Quinn and Whitt dont play that kind of coverageI’m not missing anything. Just like I wasn’t when I wished him well when he went and stole Miami’s money. He’s not a difference maker.
And has it not occurred to you that three years into that deal (just two of production), Miami can’t get out of it fast enough and is willing to eat $15 million in dead money.
People are overlooking a lot.
Yeah, that’s why we didn’t pay him that. He isn’t going to get that here.I’m not missing anything. Just like I wasn’t when I wished him well when he went and stole Miami’s money. He’s not a difference maker.

His 2021 coverage stats are near identical to what Diggs did in 2022 FWIW. Almost identical yards given up, rec%, yac, yards per catch, etc. numbers for DBs rarely tell the full story though. He wasn't good in Miami. Gave up a 117 QBR in 2020. 2021 was better but still close to 100

Elliott has been trending in the wrong direction statistically since becoming the first running back in NFL history to sign a $100 million contract. The two-time rushing champion signed a six-year, $90 million contract extension, which made him the league's highest-paid running back at $15 million per year, shortly before the start of the 2019 regular season to end a lengthy preseason holdout. Elliott, who had two years remaining on his rookie contact, established new standards for running backs with $50,052,137 in overall guarantees and $28,052,137 fully guaranteed at signing with deal.
- 2023 Salary Cap Number: $16.72 million
- 2023 Compensation: $10.9 million
- 2023 Dead Money: $11.86 million ($5.82 million with post-June 1 treatment)
- 2023 Salary Cap Savings: $4.86 million ($10.9 million with post-June 1 treatment)
The 2022 season was the worst campaign of Elliott's seven-year NFL career. Elliott had 231 rushing attempts for 876 rushing yards with 3.8 yards per carry, all career lows. He caught 17 passes for 92 yards, which were more career worsts.
Elliott is reportedly open to taking a pay cut to remain in Dallas. The Cowboys want Elliott back provided it makes sense financially.
