Curious about Denzel Daxon

A good friend of mine from Mexico played for the Ravens. He's back in Mexico, coaching, being an ambassador for the game, he was even my DL coach in December at the Mayan Bowl. He's doing great things with kids and many media shows for the NFL. It's a great gig, if you can get it. He's big and talented. Didn't start playing since HS. Mexico now has many football opportunities for kids. Being from there, I'm proud of what the NFL has done there.

I respectfully disagree. I believe Justin Rogers is slightly better than Denzel Daxon.

I wouldn't argue the point too staunchly either way. Neither did enough to warrant a roster spot. I just like the promise Daxon showed on a few plays.

Daxon is easy to keep around because he gets an exemption. But I see him behind Rogers. We'll have to see where Toia fits in once training camp starts. I think Toia, Daxon, and Rogers all have a chance to make the final roster and get some playing time behind Mazi Smith. By that I mean any one of them can emerge but I think we're looking at 1 roster spot. I suspect Daxon will go back to the practice squad because he gets an exemption. One of Toia and Rogers might get waived. My guess is unless Toia really soils the sheets he gets the job and Rogers gets waived again.

It could be two spots, depending on what we do at end. I think we keep five ends (Parsons, Kneeland, Fowler, Turner, Ezeriaku) and five at DT (Odighizuwa, Smith, Thomas, Toia and ?). Wheat never gets nearly enough love. I agree. He just looks good every time he's on the field.

I'd say it's the same situation we were in with the way they're developing players it's Golston and Armstrong more recently, they took some time to develop in the NFL ,but they got better and then they earned more time, and then the more time they got, the more production we got to see...

But they were all they were all be role players they're going to have to also be hybrids I believe he can play inside as well but it's way too deep outside to even get any significant snaps.. They brought in a lot of defensive ends and even a couple of interior defensive lineman like Solomon Thomas he's also probably going to get way more opportunities so it's going to be tough for a week to get on the field much....

He hasn't been a high-production player (although he is a good special-teammer) and he's coming off an ACL tear, which may hurt his ability to produce even more, especially if he's anything like the rest of our ACL returners have been their first year. Plus, he has no ties to this coaching staff, so they aren't going to be as considerate of him being a second-round pick because he wasn't theirs.

Parsons is definitely a keeper. We brought back Fowler as a free agent, so he's a keeper. We just drafted Eze with a second-round pick, so he's a keeper. We just drafted Kneeland last year with a second-round pick, so he's a keeper. That's four. So it's a question of whether we keep six or how high Eberflus is on the former first-rounder they picked up (Payton Turner).

Williams isn't going anywhere. All the reports are he is ready to go and looking good. He was ready to start week 1 last year. He is still on his rookie deal. No ties to coaching staff won't matter.

I think Turner and Kneeland are the players we want out there early to give some size to the end spots. I think Parsons, Fowler and Eze will all prove to be better pass rushers than Williams. So it comes down to whether we want to keep six ends and only four DTs. I could see that because we're not rich at the DT spot. We've got Mazi, Odig and Thomas and then three seventh-rounders and a UDFA or two. Sam's spot could be saved by special teams. He really hasn't done that much for us as an end.

I just can't figure out what we will do with Parsons when that is happening. I mean, he needs to be off the field some, so we could rest him on more apparent run downs, but it's hard taking your best player off the field very often. What would probably be best for him is to put him at linebacker when a run is likely and then bring him on a blitz or run blitz, but Eberflus doesn't like to blitz. I guess he could bring him and drop a lineman into zone coverage, so he's still only rushing four, but I'm not sure he'd do that.

The fact that Daxon lived in the Bahamas until he was 17 let the Cowboys use the International Pathways label. It's kind of a cheap way to get a roster exemption for training camp.

It's not like Daxon is just learning the game. He played two seasons at Ohio and was named all-MAC in 2021. He transferred and spent his senior year starting 11 of 12 games for Illinois.
