I'm curious how most of the teams interested in him are in serious cap trouble.

Denver is projected to be 20+ mil OVER
Wash is projected to be somewhere between 20-25 mil OVER
NYJ's are projected to be 20+ mil over
and TB is projected to be close to 10 over.

How are all these teams considering T.O? Am I missing something?

He'll get at least 2mill per year plus incentives. A one-year deal, obviously.

i would not consider 2 mil expensive...its not hard to make cap room for 2 mil

it might mean not signing a couple of late round picks...but nothing significant

how much do incentives go against the cap?

some of you need a Cap 101 course -- 20 million over usually doesn't reflect a serious problem -- often it reflects some unreasonable contracts for that year that will either be cut or renegotiated. teams do it all the time -- just being over doesn't mean cap trouble -- it is how you are over.

No team will trade for him unless he agrees to a long-term cap friendly deal. And that isn't going to happen, because TO wants to control his team choice. So he won't agree to that sort of deal.

Besides, I don't think TO wants to let the Eagles profit from trading him at this point after all is said and done.

This is a tempest in a teapot. TO will be happy to see which teams enter the bidding, so when eventually he turns down any deals to be offered..he'll know who to call first when he's cut loose.

Here's what I want to know. What is the general feeling around Dallas? Do the media folks think TO is an option here? Has Mickey said anything about it, one way or another?

True but 20-25 million over is a chunk

After screwing up and missing out on a 5 million roster bonus, I doubt he will want to settle for a lousy two mill. What kind of fool would it take to do that? Of course, he may not have much of a choice.

Does anyone think TO's new contract will be better than the one that he would have had in Philly, if he just styaed there and kept his mouth shut. I don't.

He's gonna lose big time on this.

I can't help but wonder if Owens' agent, or maybe the Eagles themselves, have planted the story about the Commanders wanting Owens in hopes of getting Jerry to start or enter a bidding war.

I still don't think the Eagles would send him to another NFC East team, though.

The Kansas City Chiefs are "somewhat interested" in acquiring former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens, the Kansas City Star reported Wednesday, quoting president/general manager Carl Peterson.

The Star said Peterson will talk with new Chiefs coach Herman Edwards about the possibility of getting the controversial star and 5-time Pro Bowl selection.

“I’ve always felt Herm has the ability to bridge the gap between a lot of players,” Peterson said, “whether they’re black or white, whether they’re offense or defense or special teams, whether they’re superstars or backup players. I think that’s one of his strengths.

“Now, based on that, certainly I will have this conversation with him, and I’m sure there are other teams in the NFL who will do the same thing. But there are a lot of things that would go into it, and at the end of the day, we both may very well decide this is not the right path in which to try and follow.”

Side note:

Owens is due $7.5 million if the Eagles keep him on their roster after March 1. He has five seasons remaining the $49 million contract he signed in 2004.

The Eagles may not want to pay Owens the bonus money and some teams may want to see if they cut him, which would make him a free agent, eligible to be signed under new terms.

But for some compensation in a trade, a team could get the rights to Owens, then negotiate a new deal with him while he’s still under his old contract.

TO wants to be paid like a top WR and won't take anything less....period

The sad part about that scenario Is that TO is a top WR! But he comes with so much baggage -- he's severely damaged his own marketability!:

First, towards your cap question, yes Denver and Washington are over the cap heavily.

You can do that by restructuring contracts, cutting players, Redsking are noted for doing that, take for example Lavar Arrington. Reportedly he was cut out on a 5 million pay he was suppose to get, and the Commanders did it to him.

Next, the cap this year is reportedly going to go up from 82 million towards 92 million. But, the CPA aggreement between the players and owners hasnt been signed yet. If it is not signed by March 3rd, then a lot of teams like Commanders, Denver would have to cut players, their contracts esculate.

So, to offset that, not sure whom is trying to up the cap, but reports are that it is suppose to go up from 82 to about 110 million to 115 million. If it does that, it gets teams like Commanders and Denver out of cap hell, and they will be available to sign players like Owens if they so choose to do so.

Cold pizza is reporting that 4-5 teams are interested in him, and he will just probably wait till eagles cut him to go to team he wants. I would rather have Owens in Dallas instead of Commanders. I am not saying that i like him, what he did about stepping on our star during a game. And his mouth. Just think though, with santana moss, and if you add in Owens, how are you going to stop them on offense, that then will open us their runner too. They will really be hard to beat then.

Again, cold pizza is reporting some teams just want to win, and sign owens to a one year deal, with incentives, for like so many touchdowns, playing in playoffs and super bowls, penalities against talking his mouth off, etc. You could sign him to about 1.5 million with incentives. Just something to think about, hope that helps your question.

Thing is, though, if he ends up getting released and their are 4 or 5 teams interested in him, he will end up getting more money than he deserves.
