Curious Case of Keldric Faulk

Watching him play.....I got the feel he's a bigger version of Randy Gregory. I got a feeling he's gonna be one of those guys that has an occasional freak play that just screams special.....then he will disappear for 3 weeks.

I think people forget how special of a draft prospect Gregory was...

He was also like 40 pounds lighter so completely different player.

I like him more than most. I see his upside; he’s already stout against the run and has the athleticism to evolve into a better/more consistent pass rusher.

I think he could eventually be somewhere between Jaelen Phillips and Greg Rousseau.
Rousseau is a good comp...A lot of his college production came from the inside and he had to develop in the NFL.

In this class I would take him at 12 in a heartbeat.

Hell to the no. This team needs a closer, not another 40+ pressure a year guy who only produces 3 sacks ala Osa/Ezuraku
Sacks certainly aren't the end all be all but expecting big sack production from a rookie is unrealistic.

Carter had 4 this past season as a top 5 player who is better than anyone in this class.

You can listen to him, Bobby Belt, The draft show on the official dallas cowboys site. Broaddus does many shows and he and Voch have Crown Global Media youtube where they talk draft a couple times a week at least.
You can find Dan Brugler and follow him.
There are various sites that do write ups and updates on players
You got the senior bowl coming up which should have the first true height and weight measurements along with seeing some of the seniors who stand out even if they are from smaller schools.

Don't just listen to one or just read one. Find different people and decide who you like, take the opinions of a number of different people. They might not all like or see the players the same but you will tend to see that most see a player a certain way and a few others are outliers.

Plus you can look up game footage of most players to get a good idea ....If a DE is mostly a pass rusher but bad against the run...or the opposite.
Look at CBs and see that some are better at zone, some are better at man...some do both well.
Ill
Be honest I listen to everyone that is posted. I was just seeing like do people just not like the person or is it because their picks end up wrong? Because if it’s the latter that’s not really on them….

People can be wrong about a player.

But when opinions are stridently asserted as if being wrong is not even a possibility, that’s when I love to call them out.

To me, that’s fair game.

Also, there’s nothing more lame when someone’s opinion is based almost entirely on what some other guy wrote on a website, and then they lazily post that summary like it’s gospel. Sorta like “See! What you’re saying can’t be true because Joe Blow said so here in bullet point #3!”

There’s so much video out there, not to mention games broadcasted weekly, to not be able to form your own opinions instead of parroting someone else’s.

I won't call anyone out but I literally had this exact kind of person trying to argue with me last cycle..." I don't watch any of the players but the scouts say"

Sigh...

One of the most polarizing draft prospects in the class. Some analysts I really respect have him high as top 5 some have him more as a bottom of the 1st kind of player. I'm a little torn b/c in the top 20 I'm typically looking for a Edge that checks boxes for size/length, athleticism and production (ideally in a power 5 conference). The production just hasn't been there.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT...There is a little more to unpack.

1. Auburn used him in a funky way where he was playing all across the DL and even when outside was in more of a 2 gap type scheme limiting his ability to fully produce.
2. He was 19 freaking years old when he had 7 sacks and 10+ TFLs in his best season so his best football is ahead of him.

I'm not pounding the table for him but he is very intriguing to me and I could get on board at 12 if we go that route. Will he ever be a + pass rusher? I don't know...but I do know he'll be a + run defender that can create some pressure across the entire DL.

I wonder if he can turn into a Michael Bennett type player? Base end on early down with ability to kick inside on passing downs and give you 6-8 sacks a year while being a monster against the run.
If we still had Parsons, I would be interested. He is similar to Mykel Williams from last year. Drafting him is more of a projection based on his traits. By the way, he has had an awful rookie season. You didn't like the Kneeland pick, he is just a better version of him. Better traits, comes from a bigger school, but their games were similar. I don't care how he was used with such poor sack production, we need a pass rusher!

Williams got hurt this year...

And I dont think Kneeland was in the same stratosphere as him as a prospect.

Pass rush is my priority but I think someone like Faulk can help the defense regardless.

I would rather bet on the traits than draft someone that is 240 with 30 inch arms that had 10 sacks in college.

I have noticed over the years, the guys who performed well during the senior bowl and that week of practice typically end up being good pro players.

I agree but you also have to understand what you are looking at and post people don’t. If it’s not on a stat sheet then they don’t know what they are seeing. I’ll be straight up I have no idea how to gauge an offensive linemen. Some guys like Booker have great great tape and you can see how he flashes.

Yeah but traits don’t always translate. I trust tape over traits because one thing traits don’t show is what’s between the head and what’s beating in their chest.

Personally, I don't see pass rush ability with Faulk but it could be link to the defense Auburn used. The combine might be important to Faulk; If he lights it up and demonstrates athletic ability that could show potential similar to a Travon Walker.

Agree but his tape isn't terrible. Think Faulk will be a starting DE in this league but the pass rush is in question and that is what Dallas needs. He is the best run defending DE in the draft, sets the edge and motor is allows hot.

No I agree I wasn’t saying that about him. Just generally speaking. I’m not against him but I’d personally prefer corner and linebacker with those first two picks.

Of course the tape matters...but it all factors in.

Teams are going to shy away from guys that don't meet certain thresholds as there is correlation to success in certain positions and size / athleticism .

I am not waiting on a player to take his 1st contract to develop as a pass rusher, if he does at all. He wouldn't be in my consideration at 12, even at 20, would rather gamble on a player like Mesidor over him. Long-term he may become a force, but we don't have several years to wait until that transpires.

I hear you but you are likely going to be waiting on a player to develop regardless...Carter had 4 sacks this year and was a top 5 pick.

Rookies aren't fixing this defense in year 1.

It depends on the position, think LB/S, maybe corner can make an immediate impact.
