Current Depth Chart - Defense

Probably a little too early for a depth card for defense.

Just on the D-line alone there's 6 players that have either signed with another team or haven't found employment yet and there's a 7th that everyone is screaming should be cut

I’m going to bed. If somebody could have it posted so I can review in the morning while I’ll drink my coffee, that would be fantastic. Good night.

Somebody should put together our current depth chart on defense so we can all review and discuss. I'm not doing it, I'm too lazy.

Guy over here making demands like he owns CowboysZone

When did Jalen Jelks become a Sam Lber?

I was hoping after an offseason to get stronger and more acclimated to the NFL.. Jelks could find a way to be semi productive at DE. He looked good in College, albeit a bit lightweight in the legs in my opinion

In college he looked the best as a pass rushing DT (similar to how D.Irving played with the Cowboys).

In a 3-4 maybe? Just pondering here.
Maybe MM doesn't try and put square objects in round holes, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities if a coach actually utilized the talent properly and built the scheme around the player.
Something Red and M never subscribed to.

This team is obviously depleted at DT, and as we all know LBs are cheaper and can be drafted easier,, has to make you wonder if a scheme change is in play.
Not saying Jelks has anything to do with that, just been thinking this for a while now, and this thread seemed the appropriate place to throw my BS and see if anyone else is thinking the same.

Hmmmm...

Since the new staff has stated they want to play a Multiple Defense, I wonder if Jelks being listed as a LB means they envision him at the “elephant” position on defense?

Elephant will play end in a base front, slide inside for nickel and even play an up LB on the line to reroute Tight Ends, rush the passer or cover short areas. Charles Haley played this position with the 49ers. Chris Doleman and Willie McGinest were also used in this way. Most importantly, though, our own Mike McCarthy used Julius Peppers as the elephant on the Packers defense.

It’s an intriguing possibility.
