cut payroll?

Thats incorrect. Thats not how it works.

Signing bonus money is paid UP FRONT.

He has already received his signing bonus money. The only affect that has on the books in when the signing bonus is accelerated upon release or trade.

Signing bonuses are not always paid upfront. Teams have broken them up before. That way the prorated portion hits later not year 1.

All that said, if there is no penalty to release a player RW11 will be cut. He and Barber are ideal candidates if there is no penalty.

If RW11 gets cut he gets paid zero more dollars.

so if he is released then it is accelerated...hence the 9mil hit on payroll.

There is no such thing as a hit on payroll and payroll and salary cap are different. *If*, and I use if because I don't know his contract details, all his garunteed money has been paid, then there is no acceleration and no hit, as long as the cap doesn't exist. We wouldn't owe him anything else.

Yes. That is exactly correct. When a player in CBA capped season is cut, his prorated signing bonus remaining is added into the team's salary in determining where they are in relation to the cap. That is just a paper number, not real money. If there is no cap, there is no impact, in money or on paper, in cutting him.

signing bonuses are by definition paid up front.

What you're refering to is roster bonuses or likely to earned bonuses...
