Cutting the cord

I see these kinds of threads every so often and hoping someone can advise. I want to do away with Direct TV for obvious cost concerns, but it seems the Sunday Ticket is the only option to be able to watch all cowboy games live. I was looking at streaming services such as Hulu, Fubo, You tube, etc, but you only see what games they air in that region. Currently have amazon prime (should get Thursday games) and Hulu (not live tv version). Even if I upgrade to Hulu live tv, I will still miss many of our games. Suggestions/tips?

yeah, I admit Im a bit slow and stubborn regarding technology

No worries. Many folks still have the cord. May I suggest saving $ even more. @ShortRound has 3 great streaming apps to watch all the games absolutely free. I usually download them before the first game. Many fans in here will be asking a good streaming site the day of.

After the season, I delete the apps. What's great? You don't have to sign in to any of them. If @ShortRound doesn't respond, send him a PM (personal message). Some members have their "alert" turned off meaning he won't see that I had tagged him in this post.

Best of luck dear & Go Cowboys!

I sign up for ATT Live/Direct TV streaming option(they seem to change the name yearly) from September~May as I also watch NHL/NBA and as far as I know it's the only one to give me the Ballys sports channels.

I am debating between Direct TV Stream and Hulu Live at the moment. If it were not for the cowboys games, i could live on the cheap with what I have now

hmmm do you mean streaming sites? I keep these two bookmarked, I think the first one is better but it's been a few months and every year the sites seem to change.
There are other posters who will post on gameday some site, just have to keep an eye out.

I am pretty sure their are limitations on the Sunday Ticket streaming package. My address, for example, is not eligible for streaming Sunday ticket. Since I used to be a DirecTV customer I must subscribe to DirecTV again before I can purchase Sunday Ticket streaming or otherwise. You can check eligibility on their website before you decide.

At some point people are going to realize the only thing changing with cutting the cord is that instead of paying X dollars to your cable/satellite provider, you are going to pay 2X or 3X dollars to all of the networks separately.

They will bait, switch and rug-pull you constantly until they reach their ultimate goal of becoming your new cable company without having to provide the cable or satellite service .. until one of them gets big enough to start buying those as well.

I am sure Peacock and eventually Apple TV will raise their prices as well, which will give Disney, Hulu, Netflix, etc. a chance to start the cycle all over again with even higher prices.

Youtube TV which promoted itself as a reasonably priced alternative to cable TV launched with a $35 price. Then it increased to $40. Then it increased to $50. Now it's $65 per month.

They are all just hoping to get people to sign-up so after enough time goes by they increase prices and their customers feel too locked in to specific content to cancel.

Check out Yahoo Sports. There were a couple times last year I wasn't home to watch the games, but was able to stream them free from Yahoo on my phone. I can't remember what choices were available or if they are doing it again this year, but may be worth checking out.

The Sunday ticket will be moving to a streaming service in 2023 (Apple, Disney and Amazon) I think are the front runners. you’re probably better off waiting until January.

There's definitely a lot of that going on. If you want everything, it's going to cost as much or more than the traditional cable/sat service. It is still a good choice for those that don't want everything and really only watch a few stations or shows.

Hulu is what around 70 bucks for 80 or so channels. Sling TV has 2 packages around 35$ each with each having only around 40 channels. A lot of these "cord cutting' alternatives aren't as low priced as some think.

Same tip I always give. Find a relative or friend with a kid who's in college. Knowing a teacher at a 2-year or 4-year school would probably work as well. Slip them $120 (up $20 from when I started) and have them create a student account with DTV. Boom, there are apps on all sorts of devices. Streams just fine, but you're a little behind so best not to refresh the gameday threads until breaks. Heck, you might be able to get away with it if you have an old .edu account from when you were in school. I haven't tried but that's because I can't remember the password for my account. Been a while.

I have signed up for the NFL Sunday Ticket U(college students or sometimes To Go app))at least eight times over the last 12 years or so. I graduated in ‘94 though

They don’t check even if they say they do……..

If you’re internet speed is 200mb or higher the streaming quality is much better than cable. That’s a good reason for streaming vs cable/satellite. Not talking about the free malware sites that don’t work most of the time but Amazon Prime, Hulu etc.

Can you watch all of the Cowboy games with KODI. Just read where you can get a Roku or Firestick and download KODI. This would work for me if i can watch all of their games.

I really thought they would merge with the internet providers to charge people for the bandwidth "usage" of the bigger streaming sites. But you're right, it's been the apps that are increasing membership fees now that enough people have cut the cord. I'm cable-free for the last few years, but am half waiting on the other foot to drop with the internet fee increases to have us back at square one like we once were with the cable companies.
