Penalties are a discipline issue, which is in turn a coaching issue. The players got to quit buying into the hype as well.
Gregory is the perfect example IMHO. He is without question a selfish and undisciplined person and player. Nobody wanted him because he is a massive red flag. Doesn't matter though cause Jerry doesn't have to answer to anyone. He picks Gregory. Gregory is basically a no show for 5 years. Year 6 and he is still on the team. Final game of the season and Gregory is basically a no show except for three selfish and undisciplined penalties. Should this come as a shock to anyone? Are the coaches expected to transform these people into something they are not? It is 100% on Jerry to give the coaches players that are disciplined and reliable. Jerry ignores all red flags in search of the all mighty talent yet the team falls apart year after year for reasons other than talent. Perhaps we need to start putting value in some other areas as well.
Make your gambles with 6th and 7th round draft picks not 2nd round picks.
And stop investing in WRs like you are Matt Millen in Detroit.
And stop paying players who are clearly not producing up to their level of play anymore like Crawford and Jaylon.
And stop extended players early for no reason anymore like Zeke.
And stop restructuring contracts spending future cap space in an effort to stay competitive now.
I could go on and on.
