Something tells me that Cyprien may be gone by the end of the first round, or early second. I don't think he will make it to our pick in the second round.

Agreed. I think its Vaccarro in the first or someone like Philip Thomas in the late 2nd or 3rd. Unfortunately, Cyprien will probably go in between our picks, and I don't think we have the ammo to move up at all.

I agree.
And I'm vehemently opposed to burning any of our first four picks to move up this year. We need those picks way too much and there's a real chance that our 1st four this year could all contribute.

If what we wanted was gone at 18, and we dropped down in the 1st and as a result picked up a couple of extra picks, then maybe moving back up later on the draft would work value-wise.

I agree that Cyprien wull be gone around thgat time. It's either Vaccaro at 18 or Reid at 47. Dallas are showing interest in both for this reason

If a safety is our first pick, I would strongly be in favor of a trade down and picking up Cyprien over drafting the texas safety at #18.

He will not make it to #47.

I think if we sign Huff, Allen or Barber then our 1st will be on OL, as it should be.

Dallas likes Church and Johnson. Signing a veteran like mentioned above, will allow Johnson to learn the ropes (if he can stay healthy).

I think Cooper is #1 on their draft board.

I think our draft board

is most likely

at 18

DT'S
Sheldon Richardson - I really think we are looking for DT in the first unless Cooper or Warmack just happen to fall inyo our laps

OG'S

Cooper
Warmack

FS
Kenny Vaccaro

with trade back

DT'S
Jesse Williams
Johnathan Hankins

FS
Jonathan Cyprien

I am not so sure of this. As I understand it, Tomlin was at the Texas Pro Day, specifically to check out Vaccaro. This is the second time I've heard that Tomlin has scouted him. Once at the combine and now at the Pro Day. I think Pittsburgh's interest in him is very high.

isn't Cyprien a strong safety? if thats the case, and we have Church playing there, wouldn't it make sense to look at either a free safety or another position altogether?

John Cyprien (from NFL.com)
Analysis

Strengths

Looks and plays like a strong in-the-box safety with solid thickness throughout his build. Holds his ground against blocks from bigger opponents, and also runs through traffic to wrap up ballcarriers inside (sometimes as a fast edge blitzer). Possesses enough speed and athleticism to cover ground as a zone defender in the back half and line up against slot receivers inside. Closes on stretch runs and quick throws to outside receivers even when playing well back from the line. Beats receiver blocks with quickness or strength. His secure tackling in those situations is also notable, as he brings some attitude into his attempts unlike other defensive backs in this class. Used as a blitzer on run and pass plays, can overpower running back blocks. Weaknesses

Doesn’t have elite range or the height/length combination to play as a single-deep safety. Quick enough to make a hit after the catch when deep, but is often a step slow to recognize the pass coming into his area. Aggressive in coverage, he can be sucked up by play action and will jump underneath routes, allowing plays over the top. Lacks elite change of direction and quickness in man coverage, and does not recover like a corner if beaten by a quick move off the line or in space. NFL Comparison

Jordan Babineaux Bottom Line

One of the hardest-hitting safeties in the 2013 draft class, Cyprien offers enough range to be reliable in box coverage while displaying an aggressive mentality againt ball carriers and receivers. He plays smart, and that might be the most improtant trait when looking at safeties. However, despite it being unique, Cyprien doesn't have a very well known name ... yet.

Ok thats what I'm saying. We either pick Vaccaro at 18 unless a higher rated player is there or a Vaccaro is gone.

If Vaccaro is gone, then I think Dallas will make sure they get Reid in the 2nd.

Reid is ok, but there are so many solid safeties in this draft, I think they could find a good one in the 3rd or 4th if they have to.

They might like Reid enough to take him in the second and if Kiffin likes him that much, fine... but I like some others better.

Agree. He would only be an option if they trade down from #18.

I would be happy with a trade down IF Jonathan Cooper is already off the board. Cooper is the only player that I'm completely sold on that is a possibility at #18.

I find Safety to be the most difficult position to evaluate. It's not hard to see the physical abilities or physical limitations but the mental/instincts part of the position is really hard to evaluate. The way they're coached in 1 college scheme can vary quite a bit from other schemes. Then you have to project them into the specific NFL scheme.

The good thing is that I believe the Kiffin coaching staff knows exactly what they want and will spend the required time watching film.

No to Vaccarro or Cyprien.

Cyprien is not our type of safety anyways for the reason you stated.

Reid (2nd round), Thomas (2nd or 3rd) Swearinger (2nd or 3rd) or Rambo (3rd Down) should be our realistic targets at safety.

The 2 highlighted in the 3rd round or lower would be where I'd like to go and are more talented than the 2 not highlighted.
