I always thought this was a fascinating story. Did he make it? Did he perish during his jump? Are one of the many individuals that claim they are (or a family member claims they were) the real DB Cooper?

I just watched a pretty good documentary on HBO Max about it called The Mystery of DB Cooper. It covered four suspects. Some had some interesting alignments with the crime and others were meh, to me anyway. The LD Cooper story was the least credible to me. For one, why would you use your actual last name during the crime? For two, the niece just comes across as being interested in getting her 15 minutes of fame from the ordeal.

One story that is particularly interesting is that of Richard Floyd McCoy. Five months after the DB Cooper incident, he also demanded money on a plane and jumped. The FBI officially dismissed the case as a copycat crime but many speculate that he was the original DB Cooper. That he had lost the money during the first jump and was simply giving it a go for a second time. Interesting for sure. He never confirmed or denied he was Cooper.

Only evidence they have is his tie, I believe some fingerprints, and the money they found on the shore of the Columbia River in 1980. Nobody has even the slightest clue how the money ended up on the shore at that particular spot. The FBI did have the cigarette butts from Cooper, that they could use for DNA today, but they lost them. Insane. How do you lose probably the best piece(s) of evidence you have!?

Anybody else take an interest in this story and have an opinion? I'm curious to hear it! I feel like he got away with it. I think if he perished somebody would have found a hanging body in a tree by now. No matter, the truth is out there!

OR................was it Reverend Conehead time traveling with Amber Heard as an accomplice?

I watched it recently and your take is almost identical to mine in that I was surprised how compelling 3 of the 4 suspects were but the pretty blonde with the Cooper name struck me as off and looking for attention as well.

Also, the minute that stewardess said she sat next to DB on the flight and lit his cigarettes while he supposedly held a bomb detonator had me immediately asking "where are the cigarette butts?"!?!?!?!?

and then later in the episode they reveal they were lost and I want to puke

looks like we'll never know who this or The Zodiac killer was and it drives kind of crazy to think about them getting away with it, mainly The Zodiac since no one washer in DB's case

i think it was an inside job.
i think he was an agent with the FBI.
he was part of a FBI undercover operation to "test" our readiness and procedures...regarding sky jackings...how prepared were they...what works...what doesn't,etc...
thats why he was never captured.
i don't think the airline would've been told...best way to simulate a sky jacking is to go "live" with it.

It was Jerry Jones. It's been said that Jerry tried to buy the Cowboys right after he graduated from college. Now where does a fresh graduate get that kind of money from? That's why Jerry, the criminal that he is, likes giving knuckleheads a second chance. They share a similar back ground.

First i heard about him from unsolved mysteries with Robert Stack back in the 80's
i think he got away with it. there was some report that he died around 2005 or something in North Carolina
For the record when i first joined this site my nickname was DB Cooper

The McCoy supposition was that he lost the money during the first hijack and because of this tried another soon after.

While watching the show i was frustrated that there was no mention whether McCoy had asked for a specific type of bag (one with zippers, clasps, etc..) when demanding the ransom during his robbery.

If a secure bag was part of his demands this would lead me to place McCoy higher up the list of possible answers in this case, but they didn't provide that detail.

I hear ya on the Zodiac Killer. To think how close they came to catching him and yet never have.

A couple years ago the History channel did the show “hunt for the zodiac killer”. And I thought it was awesome and they seemed to be unlocking some good evidence. Then all of a sudden, boom. The show ended and there hasn’t been a second season. It seemed to end so abruptly too.
