I always thought this was a fascinating story. Did he make it? Did he perish during his jump? Are one of the many individuals that claim they are (or a family member claims they were) the real DB Cooper?
I just watched a pretty good documentary on HBO Max about it called The Mystery of DB Cooper. It covered four suspects. Some had some interesting alignments with the crime and others were meh, to me anyway. The LD Cooper story was the least credible to me. For one, why would you use your actual last name during the crime? For two, the niece just comes across as being interested in getting her 15 minutes of fame from the ordeal.
One story that is particularly interesting is that of Richard Floyd McCoy. Five months after the DB Cooper incident, he also demanded money on a plane and jumped. The FBI officially dismissed the case as a copycat crime but many speculate that he was the original DB Cooper. That he had lost the money during the first jump and was simply giving it a go for a second time. Interesting for sure. He never confirmed or denied he was Cooper.
Only evidence they have is his tie, I believe some fingerprints, and the money they found on the shore of the Columbia River in 1980. Nobody has even the slightest clue how the money ended up on the shore at that particular spot. The FBI did have the cigarette butts from Cooper, that they could use for DNA today, but they lost them. Insane. How do you lose probably the best piece(s) of evidence you have!?
Anybody else take an interest in this story and have an opinion? I'm curious to hear it! I feel like he got away with it. I think if he perished somebody would have found a hanging body in a tree by now. No matter, the truth is out there!
OR................was it Reverend Conehead time traveling with Amber Heard as an accomplice?
