Daunte Culpepper gets MRI on shoulder
Dan Orlovsky, Drew Stanton feeling better

The Lions' quarterback situation is uncertain as they prepare for Sunday's game at Indianapolis, trying to earn their first victory 14 games into the season.

Daunte Culpepper went for an MRI exam Monday on his injured shoulder. As he was trying to heave a desperation pass late in Sunday's 20-16 loss to Minnesota, a defender caught his arm coming forward.

"I want to see where Daunte is first," coach Rod Marinelli said at his weekly news conference. "We've got to see what that news is like, and then we've got to sit down tomorrow and look at all our options."

Dan Orlovsky has missed five games with a broken right thumb. He felt a problem when he tried to throw last week.

"I felt last week I was probably a week or two away, so we'll see how it feels this week," Orlovsky said. "I'll probably be a little more aggressive with it and push it a little more to see how it feels and responds. But I'm pretty confident I'll be able to go."

Drew Stanton returned from a concussion against the Vikings but served only as the emergency third quarterback after missing practice time last week. Stanton said he should be able to practice fully this week.

Only Drew Henson has no health issues. He came in for the final play against the Vikings after Culpepper was injured.

NO KELLY: For the second time this season, cornerback Brian Kelly was in uniform but did not play. After it happened Oct. 5 against Chicago, defensive coordinator Joe Barry said the plan wasn't to keep out Kelly, it just happened over the course of the game. Kelly said he was unhappy.

This time, coach Rod Marinelli said it was a "three-safety game." That means when the Vikings ran a one-receiver set, the Lions used three safeties. But when the Lions used two cornerbacks, they used Leigh Bodden and Travis Fisher. After Fisher left with a neck injury in the fourth quarter, they put in Ramzee Robinson.

Marinelli said Robinson's legs were warmer because he had been playing special teams all game while Kelly had been sitting.

Kelly, a veteran from Tampa Bay the Lions signed as a free agent to start this season, referred questions to the coaches.

"No comment," Kelly said. "I don't have anything good for you to write about. If you want a story, you've got to go ask them."

INJURY UPDATES: The Lions placed linebacker Alex Lewis (pectoral) on injured reserve and signed linebacker Darnell Bing. Marinelli said Fisher and linebacker Paris Lenon (chest) should be OK.
