I know many say use the tag but if he repeats next years stats, wouldn't it cost even more. Other words, if we can get him to agree to a long-term deal averaging $16-18M, I think we should do and forget about the tag. (See average salary for top DEs below)

DeMarcus Lawrence's campaign for Defensive Player of the Year had grown stagnant recently, particularly as the losses piled up one after another for the Dallas Cowboys. He entered their Week 13 game against the Washington Commanders with 11.5 sacks, but 6.5 of them came in his first three games. He piled up four more in their next four, but after that, he had only one sack in the next four weeks.
Lawrence needed a standout performance to get back on top of the leaderboard, and that's exactly what he had. It may have come against a completely battered Commanders defensive line, but Lawerence utterly dominated the game. He had two sacks going on 20, making life miserable for Kirk Cousins, who was on the move on practically every passing attempt. David Irving and Taco Charlton each had a sack of their own, which were made possible by the overwhelming commitment the Commanders had to make just to keep Lawrence from destroying them on every single play.
