If Glover and Ellis go, aren't we seriously short on the DL? If Canty, Spears and Fergy start, who does that leave? Coleman, Ratliff and Pepper? Yikes!

Our two best D Linemen leaving because they don't fit the 3-4....

Bum Phillips on Don Shula "He can take his'n and beat your'n and he can take your'n and beat his'n"

It'd be nice to see this team coached to the strength of it's players rather than the players being forced into the only system the coach knows.

Expect Glover will go but want to keep Ellis; DL w/o them both concerns me. No problem with Spears & Canty starting & Ratliff looked pretty good as Spears backup. I do expect improvement in the play of all 3 as they work out in offseason conditioning program, mature as individuals and NFL players & 3-4 scheme moves from vanilla to more complex packages like we see from Pats, Chargers & Steelers. Okay w/Ferguson starting NT but worried about lack of quality backup since don't know enough re Pepper Johnson's skills except that Parcells very high on him to extent he wouldn't attempt put him on PS cause that would run risk of losing him on waivers. If we can keep Ellis at least 1 more year, then less worry about DEs in 06. Of course Parcells did sign 2 DEs late in season (Johnson & Glymp) off other team's PS but don't know if either player will have any impact on future of this team.

BOTTOM LINE IS WE SHOULD BE A 4-3 (serious misuse of talent this season)

we have 8 good dlineman and only 2 good linebackers

We've already wasted to many picks for the 3-4. Marcus Spears does not have the speed to be an edge rusher, and Ware is too light to play DE on a full time status. A lot of people would like to try Spears at DT, but as evidenced by Shaun Ellis that move doesn't always work. Bring in Akin Adoyele from the Jaguars. He is a former DE who now plays OLB. 6-2 and 257 pounds. One of his weaknesses was that he was a better pass rusher than coverage linebacker. We could then move Fujita to ILB if Dat does not return.

Spears is built exactly like Leon Lett.

Ware is the same size as Jason Taylor and 10 pounds lighter than Freeney and Kearse, an offseason in the weight room and he can be 265 easy.

Canty can go DT or DE, so can Ratliff.

There was not a single player we picked up that forces us into a 3-4, in fact they fit the 4-3 equally well...after all that was the draft day rhetoric we were hearing was it not?

Keep Ellis and Glover, go 4-3, and fix the offensive side of the ball.

Lose Ellis and Glover and DL depth goes poof.

We are still two starting LBs short for a solid 3-4.

And the picks and FA dollars we would spend to fix those holes won't be there to shore up the offense.

Leon Lett played DT in college. Shaun Ellis a DE was tried at DT and the move didn't work out as well as hoped. Spears is built exactly like Shaun Ellis. I'm not saying he can't make the transition, but you can't take it for granted that he can. Ware might not be able to stop the run in the 4-3. 10 pounds is a lot of weight to try and put on in one off season. Just ask Al Johnson how easy it is to put 10 pounds of muscle on.
