Reviews of Dak in early camp practices have been mixed. Reality is that he hasn’t been that great.

But I harken back to his rookie year. He wasn’t good in practices that year either. Then when the lights came on he was outstanding.

Dak surprised folks in his first preseason game...and then again in the next...he moved up the depth chart past Romo’s other backup options...and then he was the man. Starter. Even when Romo was deemed healthy...Dak held the job. In a mid-season dip where Prescott had a rough two-game stretch and Romo’s shadow loomed large...Dak answered with a great game against Tampa Bay. He held the job thru the year.

So...should we be worried that Dak hasn’t played well in camp practices this year?

I did not know Dak had a son? Nice to know his son (T-RO) is here posting among us.
:p:D:thumbup:

Tbh, I’d rather him practice well because, ultimately, the season comes down to him.

Lmao. How do people say this with a straight face? So the coaches, OL, WRs, RBs, defense or special teams have no bearing on our season? Just one guy? Some people are so ready to give out all this blame to Dak if this season goes wrong. So they are already prefacing it with statements like this and getting their ducks in a row. While many of those same people will say it was the supporting cast doing most of the work if we do in fact have a successful season.

Where was this mindset for Romo? That guy got every excuse you could dream up when we failed year after year under him.

Pro football Fans in preseason are like little league parents who helicopter every day over practices and over-analyze every throw, drop and drill.

Fans usually want to believe the best case scenarios and fear the worst case scenarios they hear about.

One word for everyone during preseason: Chill.

2 days into camp? Really?

There have been more than just days of practice. And this has been an old narrative.

In an article a few years ago that highly praised Dak...noted this very thing...that he plays better than he practices.

Prescott really didn't start showing how accurate and effective he could be until the preseason. In exhibition games, he led all NFL quarterbacks who completed at least 25 passes with a passer rating of 137.8 and a completion percentage of 78.0. With each passing preseason game, the Cowboys' front office and coaching staff had to rethink what Prescott could become.

It was challenging because what Prescott was in workouts and practices wasn't what he is in games.

"I will tell you this about Dak," Jones said. "In practice, he does not throw it as accurately as he does in a game. That's been going on out here. It's not for lack of want to or effort. It's not perfect like it was when [Troy] Aikman was here. Romo throws it to perfection. Dak has a lot of gamer in him. When the lights come on, he plays better than he does in practice. For whatever reason, it seems like everything seems to refine at the right time."

I don’t know what you are getting it. Everyone knows the QB—for any team—is the most important player on the team. Always for all teams.

I like to think that this thread will calm some people’s nerves. There was a lot of talk on today’s “Cowboys Break” about how poorly Dak has practiced the past week. Thus this response.

Reports are that none of the quarterbacks have thrown it well in this early phase of camp.

Yup we should have given the farm and got that Wentz kid from Philly. Just kidding. Not worried at all.

Because Dak touches the ball more than anyone on this team except the center.

When Romo was healthy they gave Dak the job

Dak will be fine plus his recievers look better then I anticipated, yes its one week into camp

IMO there is only 1 question that matters -- given that defenses clogged the middle of the field last year we can either have Dak improve attacking the sidelines 10-20 yards downfield, or we can change the scheme so that clogging the middle of the field doesn't eliminate all the throws that Dak is good at.

If we are going to see more 10 personnel then perhaps it is the latter, but I'm not sure I've seen a QB be successful and not be able to target the outside.
