Police here say that most vehicle break-ins occur with unlocked cars. It amazes me how many people with things to protect, such as guns in their vehicle, don't lock their cars. I lock mine and don't even had anything of value in it. Of course, we left my wife's unlocked one night by accident and someone got into it and stole a nail file and a lint roller. I think they just took those because they wanted something for the effort.
Strange they would steal a nail file and lint roller. They usually make sure whatever they’re stealing is worth their freedom if they get caught. If they were on probation that could get them another 10-15 years in prison. They better hang onto the nail file they might be able to use it to break out of jail. lol

Some people rather leave their car unlocked instead of getting their windows smashed and still get their items stolen.

Yeah, but most thieves don't actually smash windows because it makes too much noise. Obviously, if you have something of high value sitting out in the open, someone is liable to smash your window. But at least in my area, thieves go around checking for unlocked cars so they can grab and dash and move on to the next car.

Again, that information comes from interviewing police officers for articles about vehicle break-ins. In case you don't believe me, here's an article with similar info: https://www.valleytimes-news.com/20...rcent-of-car-break-ins-are-unlocked-vehicles/

Yeah. I think they were just too mad to leave empty-handed.
