Dak is so much better when they let him be a football player

I'm completely over the whole "he needs to be a better dropback passer" thing. To hell with that. He's never going to be Mahomes or Rodgers but he's certainly good enough to get it done. Sprinkle in a little running and maybe my favorite talent of his, the ability to throw on the run with pinpoint accuracy, and you have a good QB who morphs into a great football player. Hopefully Big Mac and Schottie saw the light last night. I know they don't want to get him hurt but they just HAVE keep "Dak be a football player" in the playbook going forward. I mean don't be stupid and don't be taking on linebackers head on but DBs? Hell yeah run their lil arses over. And occasionally turn on the jets and just run away from them .. I'm looking at you Derwin James.

Agreed. It's true for Lamar, Josh Allen and probably even Jalen Hurts to a degree.

Rodgers and Mahomes have definitely always been allowed to be football players, probably not the best examples lol

Play to his strengths which at this time is rolling out or moving the pocket. As for jets he doesn’t have any he just plods along. I think they are trying to protect him from himself what do they have behind him.

Thing is I remember several really good "athletic" QBs in recent memory who basically "dropback passered" their way out of the league. Donovan McNabb was an absolutely fantastic "football player" until he let all the noise about "can't win from the pocket get to him and he stopped running altogether. Same thing with RGIII though to a lesser extent. And Russell Wilson. I'm sure there are other examples but I can't summon them right at the moment. Thing is, almost all these QBs are athletic. Most of them were the best athlete in their entire high school growing up. Very few of them are complete klutzes. They're just not all super men.. which is fine. What should happen is as guys mature in the game and see the field better they naturally have to run and bail out of the pocket less and less. But I contend that they should ALWAYS keep that element as part of their game. It should never be some hard and fast "I am not running anymore" deal like it has been with some guys.

Idk I guess.

McNabb got too fat to run and RGIII broke his legs lol

Team has been dealing with this ever since his injury. Dak is a runner, only way he’ll ever play to his strengths. This guy once ran for 1,000 yards in college. Posted a list here not too long ago of some names, but most mobile QBs hit the wall at 30. His injury made it even worse. If Dallas and Dak all want to win a Super Bowl, start game planning more running. Like Romo, he makes up for the arm with his athleticism. Even basic plays like PA Roll outs are a natural boost. If you’re worried about injuries, that’s why you brought in another mobile QB like Trey Lance. Because Cooper Rush showed last year that he is just as good or better from the pocket when the OL provides time.

For the life of me I don’t know why we don’t use his ability to run. He doesn’t have to be super fast either as he showed last night.

We have weapons and a pretty good oline. We see other teams do it.. that read option stuff is huge. Even if it’s just to pick up a key first down or two a drive.

Also it helps him get into Rhythm earlier in games. That is very clear

Dak is at his best when he is getting out of the pocket and free lancing. They need him to just let it rip or else this team is going nowhere with Mike's offense.

Hopefully McCarthy isn't too stubborn to admit that his initial strategy on offense for this season was pretty much a total failure and it is time to open it up.

Oh you mean like he played at Miss St. his whole career and first year in the league...Duh. That is Dak.

He is not Romo being careless with the ball as a gunslinger, and McCarthy is trying to get him back to bus driver status.

I agree , he's not a pocket passer.
Holds the ball too long.
Roll him out, rpo ect.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he's "not a pocket passer." He's good enough at it. It's just not what he's best at. He's not drop back, rock and fire guy. It's not the thing that makes him special. And that's okay.. When he uses the thing that makes him special he absolutely IS special. The Cowboys need to figure out how to bring that out in him every game.

I said something similar last night...but you said it better.

As for why we don't let him run more, scramble, roll out...etc . I really think this might be a directive from Jerry to keep him in the pocket to avoid injuries. I mean, would you put it past Jerry?

I know.. can't hold a candle to all the Super Bowl wins that Burrow, Herbert, Lawrence, Goff and all the other golden boy "arm talent" guys have won right?
I am sure the view point will change on those guys after 7 years.

I like dak, but i will take a 6'5 "arm talent, pocket passer" over anything else. I think it has the best chance to be successful

I don't disagree with you but i think this was more Dak feeling like protection was breaking down and he was running for his life. I don't get the impression he wants to move as much as he had to last night, but I do agree he seemed to play better out of the pocket last night.

If "let him be a football player" means he can see the field and stop overthrowing the WR's I'm all game.
its let him run the ball so he doesnt try and do things he cant do like read the field and Throw accurate
