Dak isn’t Russell Wilson

This seems to be the go to comparison for media pundits for whatever reason when talking down to Dak. I assume it’s bevause both are athletic, scrambling black QBs initially perceived as a product of good teams. The inevitable conclusion of the comparison is that it turns out Wilson was much better than everyone thought (as he is now universally considered elite) but Dak is not at that level and doesn’t have the potential to. Indeed, I wager less than 10% of this board believes Dak can ever be what Russell Wilson currently is.

Well, let’s a take a look. A comparison of each player’s first 45 starts.

Dak:
30-15 W/L record
10,122 yards
225 YPG
66.1 completion %
7.5 YPA
11.2 YPC
62 passing TDs
24 INTs
942 rushing yards
17 rushing TDs
25 fumbles
95.8 QBR

Russ:
33-12 W/L record
9,375 yards
208 YPG
63.4 completion %
7.8 YPA
12.5 YPC
66 passing TDs
24 INTs
1,589 rushing yards
11 rushing TDs
31 fumbles
97.4 QBR

Pretty similar overall. Now I know what you’ll say, “But Russ got better every year”. Well, except he didn’t. His third year (2014) was arguably the WORST year of his career, where he had 14 fumbles, was sacked 45 times, had his lowest QB rating to that point and only had a total of 26 TDs running and passing.

Just food for thought

Good post. Dak has flaws for sure and much work is needed to improve several aspects of his game. But he’s 25 and the amount of hate and stupid comments he gets on these boards is amazing. I appreciated Romo when he was being ripped back in the day, then he’s gone and half the people that hated him suddenly think he’s a hall of famer who could do no wrong. When it comes to being a Cowboys QB, you can’t win even when you win.

Stylistically I don't think Dak compares to Wilson at all, but I agree that I am in the camp who has long thought their end results are similar. I think if we pay Dak big-time money, we're looking at a future similar to Seattle's in terms of roster construction. I also see Wilson as a comparison in terms of ceiling potential for Dak.

Wilson is far from an elite thrower, can kill you with the deep ball, has elite scrambling skills and just seems to find a way to win. Not exactly Dak, particularly when comparing their exact playing styles, but not too far off either.

It would be interesting if Dak could be Wilsonesque in the first quarter to simply open things up as the game progresses.

Good post...i nailed both of these players before they ever took a snap in the nfl.

I also see them as very comparable.

I like to compare dak to Tebow.

He’s everything Tony wasn’t but we said it’s we wanted for years.

Now that we got dak something something the force

You must have never watched Tebow play a down if you compare Dak to Tebow. We may never see another Tim Tebow in this league again. He was that bad.

Kind of cool stats. They do have a similar craft. Russell just takes off more, runs out of bounds at the perfect spot. He is better than Dak at that. But both guys can go through rough patches and both are also scary at the end of games if they are trying to get a win.

The ugly int that Wilson threw right before half was pretty bad. If Dak did something like that he would be massacred in here for it.
I blame Dak for that one, along with slippery ball that Romo dropped on the field goal attempt in the playoffs with Seattle, the Hindenburg’s disaster, and everything else that is wrong with this world. It is all Dak’s fault, lol. (Sarcasm)
