On the season he's completing 65.2% of his passes for 2427 yards with a rating of 93.2 and ypa of 7.2. 93.2 is good for 19th in the league and 7.2 is good for 21st in the league. Not great numbers for a guy who might get 25 million a year.

On the other hand, over the past 8 games his rating is 99.7 and his ypa is 7.8. This would put him at 11th in ypa and 12th in rating. Those are respectable numbers. Players who start out hot and go into a tailspin like he did sometimes don't come out of it, so this is an encouraging sign.

Over the prior 12 games, his rating was 77.3 and his ypa was 6.4. These numbers would have put him at the bottom of the league.

With Cooper over the past 4 he's at 102.4 and 7.8. Not much difference compared to his last 8, the only thing that jumps out is his completion percentage over the past 4 games went up by about 5 points compared to what he was averaging. He's been above 65% twice and above 70% twice in that span. He had been below 63% in all of his previous 5 games.

Another note is that the catch rate for Gallup so far this year is 42.9%, and Hurns is 53.1%. Cooper is at a respectable 68.8%. Cooper himself has 3 tds in 4 games since coming here while both Gallup and Hurns combined for 3 tds on the entire season.

There are more to being a QB than just throwing raw yardage. A good QB, calls out coverage, details pass rushers and the Mike. A QB will shift a player to determined the coverage then shift receivers into a favorable mismatch. Dak is very good at realizing where the line to gain is, the methodically march the team to be in manageable distance.

A QB has to keep the team focused on the current play and complete the nuances to make the play a success. On the first TD to Coop Dak used play-action to then threw to the perfect location to allow the receiver to gain real-estate to the TD. The 2nd TD by Coop, Dak looked towards his right to pull coverage away and then threw to his left. On both plays Cooper broke ankles.

The great QBs over the years were excellent at managing the game. They knew when the needed to score, throw away the ball or throw a 50/50 ball. Sometimes Dak puts the throttle down after a big play to keep the mismatch going.

I am happy with Dak, he is tough, gritty and shows he is determined to win.

Talent helps your #'s I'm guessing is the moral of this story? (jk)

I hope they have already worked out a long term deal window for Amari. He's going to be on the upper end of the curve, but we sucked without a true #1.

Kellen Moore’s really picked things up since we added Cooper. You guys were onto something with that one.

On a related note, I really want Gallup to become a player. He needs to start coming down with those catches he’s getting his hands on.

Dak certainly has his issues which he will need to continue to improve on as a passer, but the front office did him no favors at all assembling the group of WR/TEs on the active roster this season prior to the Cooper trade. Cooper upgrades the pass catching group from overall poor to about average. We’re seeing that talent upgrade alone make a positive impact on Dak and the productivity of the offense.

That an the offensive line has been uneven for much of the season (for several reasons).

Checkdown, dumpoff, checkdown, dumpoff, checkdown, sack... Rinse and repeat. Interspersed with occasional TD from receiver extending a ho-hum short pass play.

...as long as they win I could care less about the stats...:star:

Yeah, but when your first reads aren't there you checkdown. I know he's missed some open receivers, but I have no clue where they were in his rotation.

Hurns is 9 of 10 on his most recent targets, Gallup is 3 of 10 (3 of the misses were entirely on Dak).

I like Gallup. But I'd find ways to get Hurns targets

The long game is you’re getting a Gallup valuable snaps while learning on the fly. The payoff should come by next season. I’m glad they’re sticking with Gallup.

Gallup just seems to be stuck in traffic or between the DB & the sideline a lot. Sounds more negative than I intended.

$25 million is about $12 million too much in my opinion. Dak's a good guy, looks like he could be a good leader, but he hasn't demonstrated the throwing skills to be considered an elite quarterback.

I’ve noticed the last three games, Gallup had 3 potential big gains but unfortunately Dak under threw or missed him.

This is a league where Alex Smith got like 70 million guaranteed.

Yeah, Dak hasn’t made it easy for him, but it seems like there have been 5-6 big plays in recent games where the ball hits his hands and is either knocked out, just out of reach, or he just barely doesn’t come down with it.

We are just starting to come on.. Trending upwards and onwards...
