KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- When Dak Prescott was in college at Mississippi State, he learned to play quarterback from Alex Smith.

Smith, from his college days at Utah, was inevitably in the video clips that Prescott's head coach, Dan Mullen, would use to teach him how to properly operate the offense. Mullen and Smith have a connection, too. Mullen was Smith's position coach at Utah.

And so many here criticized those of us who dared compare Dak and Smith's style of play last year.

Dan Mullen knows how to develop QB’s it’s as simple as that. His current QB at Mississippi State was a 2 Star recruit that nobody offered with the exception of UT Chattonoga and Misssissippi State. Now, Fitzgerald is on track to be the SEC record holder for rushing QB’s in SEC history. Granted, he is not an above average passer, but he has Led Mississippi State to a #16 ranking two years removed from Dak. Mississippi State is on track for a (9-3) regular season and could easily again be a top 10-12 team in the final poll. This at school where it’s football history is not that great. Pretty remarkable after greatest QB in school history just two years ago now wears a Cowboys jersey.

The poise and class Alex Smith has exhibited throughout his career, despite a LOT of adversity, has been noteworthy.

I'd admire the heck out of the guy and I'm happy that he is having a MVP type season at this late stage of his career.

The guy was considered an epic bust but completely turned around his career. You don’t see that often.

I had said in other threads that DP reminded me of AS when people were comparing DP to tebow or Wilson

AS gets no respect for some reason.

He's been very consistent since 2011. Has not had a losing season since 2010

2011: 13-3
2012: 6-2-1 (Super Bowl trip)
2013: 11-4
2014: 8-7
2015: 11-5
2016: 11-4

Overall record: 79-56-1

Yeah, he's a class act, and a smart QB. It's great to see him have success.

At one Alex Smith point he was destined to become the the NFL's version of the "Can you name the player drafted ahead of Michael Jordan in the 1984 draft?" trivia question (Sam Bowie btw).

That's the way he had been portrayed for much of his career because he was drafted ahead of Rodgers in the 2005 draft (based on the recommendation of Mike McCarty, the OC for the 49ers at the time).

No matter what happens from this point forward, he doesn't have to worry about that. If he can somehow manager a Superbowl victory and match Rodger's total, it would be total gravy.

Probably one of the more under rated coaches in CFB. Does more with less at Miss St every year in the toughest conference in football. Has another QB this year that the scouts like in Nick Fitzgerald.

People comparing him to Alex Smith were using it as an insult trying to say Dak was a 'game manager', and not like the Alex Smith we're getting this year.

I wish Dak would take off more like Alex does. IMO Alex is the best running QB in pro football.
I think he's a bit faster than Dak, but still, he is good at picking his spots.

Anyway, I think Dak has rushed for more yards this year, and at a higher ypc.

Not true. And Alex Smith this year is irrelevent, this isn't talking about Dak watching Alex this year.

Does explain the 'weakness' of not a lot of big pass play potential. That has been a knock on Smith as well.
