Dak Prescott commented on his contract but gave a blue print of how the Cowboys should approach the situation:

“For somebody to say you can only take so much because of the salary cap or you can only do this or that, I don’t know how fair that is to say,” Prescott said, via Jori Epstein of USA Today. “Because with gambling, with everything going into this league, everything is going to continue to keep going up. It’s important for all these guys to get every bit of their worth. I want to see Zeke the highest paid. I want to see Amari the highest paid. I want to see myself up there. And I don’t think any of that is too far-fetched. Because at the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, a year or two later, you’re not going to be the highest paid. That’s just the way the game goes.”

What Dak is saying is I can not win without Zeke. I remember 2017. Zeke and I can not win without a no.1 WR. I remember the first half of 2018. So Dak is saying pay these guys and then I can get a contract that is up there. Notice he said I want Zeke and Amari to be the highest paid. Then he wants a contract that is up there.

Listen to GM Dak Prescott. We all know Jerry is not a good GM. If the Cowboys focus is on signing Dak first, it is misguided and ill informed. Dak is a winning QB but he his not a QB can carry a team by himself in the NFL...yet. I think he can develop into a franchise QB. However no one was comparing him to Luck, Wentz, Griffin, or Goff out of college as franchise QB. Dak was always considered a development that has the leadership to win and become a franchise QB. Zeke came out of college elite. Cooper came out of college elite. Dak did not come out of college elite. But, he has more upside as a championship QB than Tony Romo did out of college (undrafted free agent).

Reality is you can sign an elite RB cheap and make him highest paid. Ask Leveon Bell, David Johnson, and Gurly. They only make $13M-14M. Cooper at WR is $15-17M. Ask Brown, Evans, Hopkins, AJ Green, and Cooks. Beckham got a NY contract that is a aberration and not the norm (if he was not in NY, that would never happen). That leaves Dak. Who knows he is not Russell Wilson, Aaron Rogers, Big Ben, or Matt Ryan who all have led teams to Super Bowls. The next tier is $24M-28M being Luck, Stafford, Brees, and Cousins.

So that is why Dak is saying sign the elite players that I need to win first, and then give me a contract that is up there in high altitude but not in rarefied air.

I have said from the beginning sign Zeke, Cooper, and franchise or long term Dak if he leads you to a Super Bowl. Have Dak prove it on the field up to week 13 like you did with Troy Aikman who had 2 years left on his deal. But unlike you did with Emmitt, sign Zeke and Cooper before Dak.

Cowboys should listen to their MBA degree QB that has 2 playoff seasons in 3 years. He is giving the Cowboys good GM advice.

You've neglected to mention that under normal circumstances, the GM is an employee of the team. The Cowboys GM is the OWNER of the team. Dak might approach things differently if he was the owner, not just an employee.

It's cool that Dak got a BA in Educational Psychology and MA in Workforce Leadership
It's impressive!

If he did that 3 times it might add up the Chemical Engineering Degrees that Stephen has...difficulty wise
Or Charlotte's Stanford degree in Biology
The kids are plenty smart
Will McClay has a degree from Rice, and a TON of experience.

Dak Prescott does not have an MBA, but he does deserve a TON of credit for continuing to pursue various degrees

Book smart and street smart are very different. I know a couple of guys that are considered in the genius discussion. Funny both still leave with parents and cant do much outside of books in RL.

I like Dak and hopes he does great but I can see where the Dak haters would say if he needs Zeke and Cooper so he can raise his game than maybe he is not a franchise qb. I can see the media saying that the qb should raise the game of everyone around him like Brady, Rogers, and Brees. I am looking forward to seeing how Dak improved this year and proving people wrong. Well at least I hope he does.

Currently, no team's general manager has signed players, at all three specific positions, who are the highest paid at quarterback, running back and wide receiver. I did not do a historical survey for pinpointing any past occasion when any NFL team had the highest paid players in the league on their roster at the same time.

Maybe it has happened in the past but I believe this data is more typical of what the numbers usually look like from season to season--although the information would fluctuate between teams as player contracts are signed per year.

If true, what Prescott is proposing is radical not simply because Jerry Jones, Cowboys GM , may or may not fulfill paying Elliott, Cooper and him at the top of the scale for each position but also unique among ALL general managers--whether they be more or less respected at being a general manager than Jones.

so its a thread fail then.
Thanks for backing me up

By the way, on average, overwhelmingly, those "genius" level guys you discuss WOULD be doing way better than most.
I guess ideally, you have book and street smarts. Awful lot of street smart people with no education that are sweeping floors or say "fries with that?"

bachelor means you learn the facts of others. Master means you learn the facts and can give an opinion of the facts of others. Doctorate means you learn the facts, can give the opinion on facts, and introduce new facts for others to learn.

What this has to do with Fools ball is beyond me. My only mentioning about Dak's degrees are that he has more than the usually football jock intellect to figure this out.

I prefer the psychology degree to make football decisions for the Dallas Cowboys since a Psychology major was the last one to build a Cowboys team that won 3 Super Bowls, went to 4 straight NFC Championships and won 4 straight NFC East Division Championships. That Psychology major was Jimmy Johnson. Dak has one up on Jimmy in Psychology because he did get his masters. Thank goodness for Jerry that Jimmy decided to go into football instead of industrial psychology on how to make up a workforce....oh yeah he did make up a Super Bowl Team of the decade.

Just saying, politely...he does not have an MBA degree (which is what you said he had).

Hey, everyone once in awhile....extremely rare but it does happen...a Psych degree does come in handy. Those with a PHD may actually use it at times, but it probably one of the more patsy degrees you can get. Better than PE or Parks and rec though..like many jocks get. Classes folks take to pad their GPA.

But as you say, Jimmy had one. I think that'd help with his coaching more than salary cap manipulation, etc.

But won't argue it. As someone mentioned earlier; some have it and some don't regardless of degrees.

In any case, if you know you're going to become a QB or coach, the degrees Dak got do make sense.
We AGREE on that

I like Dak and hopes he does great but I can see where the Dak haters would say if he needs Zeke and Cooper so he can raise his game than maybe he is not a franchise qb. I can see the media saying that the qb should raise the game of everyone around him like Brady, Rogers, and Brees. I am looking forward to seeing how Dak improved this year and proving people wrong. Well at least I hope he does.
Dak did raise the game. I know a lot of rookie QB that had a RB but did not go 13-3 beating Aaron Rogers, Big Ben, Joe Flacco, Kirk Cousins, Carson Wentz, and Matt Stafford led teams. But he is not Roger Staubach who was truly the only out the gate franchise QB the Cowboys have had. Staubach was the missing piece in 1972, the only piece in 1975 (go the dirty dozen to the Super Bowl), and the crowning piece both 1977 and 1978. He raised the level of a team and had "it".

Troy Aikman needed Emmitt and they both needed Michael. Tony Romo's record without a pro bowl RB is not that good as for as playoff appearances.

However, I agree that Dak needs elite players to raise his game. But he has the talent and leadership to match and exceed elite level play with elite level players around him which in itself is a rare talent. I.e. Kirk Cousins has had elite level players around him but never could raise his talents to elite level.

If the numbers you're thinking were accurate the deals would be done already.

We will take care of Dak and Cooper. Zeke is a question mark especially with the drama around him.
I agree. Zeke is messing this triplet bassinet up with his drunken behavior. But he is the best RB in the league. But I understand fully if Jerry forces him to play out his contract then franchise tag is butt for 2 years.

However, I do get the hint that Dak is basically saying is that if you give me Zeke and Cooper, you can get your home town discount. I would take that deal even if I have to slap 3 years on Zeke's contract. Zeke would just have less guaranteed money.

I am just pointing out that he said "highest paid" for everyone (Cooper and Zeke) but himself.

Also NY Giants did with Eli, Barkley, and Beckham for 1 season.

I just know that highest paid today will not be highest paid by the end of the season and if you get Cooper, Zeke, and Dak signed, you will have 3 players locked up for the next 5-7 years to make a Dynasty run.

Dak basically is saying " If there is not enough money now to sign everyone to big contacts....there will be soon with gambling, the NFL's future presence in Vegas and the fact that the cap goes up every year." And he is right
