Everyone is talking about whether Dak gets and extension and how much but don't we have another full year after this year to evaluate? I'll admit I don't know that much about how these contracts work so that's why I'm asking? Also, Troy Aikman said this week that he would have no problem extending Dak. I'm thinking we need more time to see if he's worth a big contract. Now, I'm not saying he is or isn't but it looks like Jerry is leaning towards extending him but we need to see more.......

The problem is you risk him testing the market at the end of year 4, which is why a lot of stud rookies get extended before they go into the final year of their contract.

At the end of year 3, you're just negotiating between the team and the player. At the end of year 4, you have other clubs willing to throw cash around that kind of muddle the picture. A lot of teams aren't willing to put themselves in that situation if they know they've hit on something good, like Frederick or Martin. I'm not even remotely putting Dak in the same league of a player as those two, but being a free agent QB with a functioning right arm changes that whole equation too. I personally wouldn't extend him, but I could see why the team would open serious talks about it.

Exactly
It is always be best option to extend before free agency

I see what u mean...didn't think about that.

I want Dak to turn things around and succeed more than anyone.

But extending him this off-season would be foolish.

If he did choose to hold out, cut him or trade him for whatever pick u could get.
Why would you cut him? That would be stupid. Dak if anything is a NFL starter. Tampa, Buffalo, and Jacksonville would love to have him.

Yes, there's another year and no you don't need it. It's clear he sucks. You can either waste more time trying to get blood from a rock or you can begin the search to find someone with an actual skill set to play the position.

We have the worst front office in sports.

Guess which one they're gonna do.

Buffalo would have no interest. They have a young first round pick.

The other teams maybe. I imagine he gets no more than a mid rounder at best. Unfortunately.

I’ll be surprised if he plays out his rookie deal...his agent would be an idiot to let him play on a 1 year contract for that little as a starting QB. Unless he completely tanks going forward, he will essentially be able to hold the cowboys hostage because they have no other options and no 1st round pick. I expect a Mike Glennon Bears type of contract. 3 years 45 mil extension but really only the 1st year matters

1)Let Dak play out his contract.
2)Get some leverage via FA/Draft 2019.
3)Gage if a few 2020 rookie QB is better.
4)Make the best decision.

Too many options, and too many games left on that rookie deal to extend Dak.

Yes, he is under contract for 2019.

After that they could use the Franchise Tag to keep him longer (The Skins used the Tag twice on their previous QB).

The question after this season is about Garrett, not Dak
