What else were the Cowboys supposed to do? Come on.

It's very easy to poke fun at the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott for having failed to progress in the postseason, but the constant hand-wringing and complaining about his contract doesn't have as much weight behind it as many believe.

The Cowboys are all-in on Prescott, as they agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract with him following his past success. That is the type of contract that is instantly going to make any Cowboys hater green with envy when Prescott doesn't end world hunger or solve one of the Millennium Prize Problems every single week.

It was a terrible deal and the Cowboys will be hamstrung until 2028 because of it. 60 million per is too much for any player; much less a player past his prime that has never had consistent success against top teams.

And that doesn’t even take into account the evaluation of Dak’s talent, which is below par when it comes to throwing the ball, reading defenses and avoiding pressure. He’s always been a player that’s fed off the rest of the offense, not the other way around.

Now, Prescott has performed better than other players on this list, when healthy, anyway. He's a three-time Pro Bowler who was a viable MVP candidate in 2023. However, he's also 31 years old, has just two career playoff wins and has missed substantial time in three of his past five seasons.

What makes the Dak deal worse than say a Tua isnt just the current terms of the deal, but the fact that this is contract #3 for the Dak, and the Cowboys have horribly mismanaged both his rookie contract by playing the franchise tag game, and kicked a pretty significant amount of his 1st extension into the current one.

The Cowboys are going to have to eventually either eat a major cap hit one season and have a throw away year, or kick a ton of money into the void years which minimizes the benefits of the next QB coming in on a rookie deal which is where so many teams have been able to make runs. The attempted justification by pointing to Tua’s deal is an embarrassment.

Makes perfect sense. The guy with 90,000 posts who posts all day every day is not posting from the basement while the guy with a tenth of those posts who typically posts in the morning has no life and never gets out of the basement.

yeah i'm not sure where any of the confusion comes from for why it's considered one of the worst deals. the fact that it STILL stands as the richest a year later and multiple qb's signed is just mind boggling.

So if I pos 90,000 times since 2008.....that's 5,000 posts a year..which is 13 posts a day....so my average of 13 posts per day equates to not having a life and never gets out of the basement despite in 2025 the rest of the world have smartphones, tablets and other means for the internet.

As far as someone who has 10th of the posts from his basement....its simple.....

He has other things on his mind than talking Cowboys.....

It was a situation where Jerry waited last minute...i'm not sure if Dak was betting against himself but he showed in the past he was willing to. He and Lamb both came off All Pro's. Trying to get them at a bargain at that point was impossible.

You are likely correct. However, it should also be noted the franchise has not always been hamstrung with huge quarterback contracts.

Not counting the occasional supplemental draft, Jerry Jones has only invested either round one or two draft capital at the position in Troy Aikman (a no-brainer even for him) and Quincy Carter (which sums up his player evaluation skills as a GM to a T).

Dak Prescott's contract would make any team blink twice at drafting a Day One or even early Day Two quarterback. Atlanta's acquiring Kirk Cousins for $180 million/$100 million guaranteed then drafting Michael Penix eighth overall is an outlier but does suggest a front office will 'go for broke' despite a huge contractual agreement.

Jones is a gambler but has a Mad Genius mindset and is dedicated to maintaining a strong bottom line. I extremely doubt he has both the insight and cajones to do something similar in the short-term.
