Dak restructure. Why?

Why oh why would you restructure Dak if all you’re going to do is sign FAs to low end contracts. What kind of terrible cap management is this? If you’re going after tier 1 or 2 ok it makes sense but to bring in the guys they have brought in makes zero sense. This FO is inept and continues to prove they have no clue what they are doing.
Dak is the man and our future!

One of the best QBs in the league.

We will end up making a trade or 2.

You have to understand Stephen is infatuated with Comp Picks. He has no interest in signing a FA that will impact those calculations.

He will either make a trade or he will wait until after the draft, so it does not count negatively towards our future comp picks.

Another insane reason we did not sign Henry last year.

Signing Derrick Henry will cancel out a 6th round 2025 compensatory pick for the Ravens.
We did not sign Henry because Henry never wanted to sign with us.

You still believe that PR crap by the Joneses.

Wake up.

Why? The restructuring of Dak's previous contract pushed $40M of cap hit/dead money into the 2025 season, even if Dak had not been re-signed. The cap hit from Dak's new $60M per season deal is actually in addition to that. It was inevitable that the new contract had to be restructured.

If evenly spread out, the combined cap hit over the next 4 years would average $70M per season. Dallas will of course use void years, ensuring that Dak's cap hit will continue long after he is gone.

They could have eaten a massive portion of Daks new contract this season if all they were planning on signing was scrubs.

They just tied him to the organization financially for longer by doing this. It makes zero sense regardless of carrying money over.

This was a way to get fans interest up with no intention of using the money. Marketing ploy.
You saved me a lot of typing.

So will Tank Lawrence be cut ?
No comp.pick for him ?
He doesnt have a contract...he is a free agent. He doesn't have to be cut. He could factor in for a comp pick depending on what he signs for.

His money is all guaranteed anyway....so we are going to pay it one way or the other. Just potentially gives them some cap flexibility this year and next by doing it.

I am holding out hope they may eventually make a trade or two like the year they traded for Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore. I don’t see us keeping and drafting four 5th rounders

But they are way under the cap, like way more than they saved by restructuring Dak. Why continue pushing $ into the future if you aren’t going to use the cap space? I don’t see a world where we don’t go into the season with $30+ million in cap space.

Dallas did the restructure to carry a lot of money to carry over into 2026 and then not spend it.

Then they can carry it into 2027 and not spend it. And then 2028 and not spend it.

The most valuable team in sports operates like a high school team that has to hold fundraisers to afford uniforms for the upcoming season.

Both contracts were set up for restructures with huge bases in the second year. They will use what's needed to sign their own FAs and the low-cost FAs they bring in, they will use it to sign their draft picks and they will have the rest (including whatever they get from extending Parsons) to add any players during or after camp that they feel they need or, if that doesn't happen, roll over to cover costs next year.

I remember getting my hopes up that Dak was gonna play out there year and walk.
I was excited for the 2025-2026 season because of this. Then they go and give him a mega deal right before the season starts and #4 can’t even finish the season.

Philly -- this is automatic, it is how most big deals go -- you maximize cap space that way.

How do you not know this?
